Press Release No. 76/25 TOURISM MINISTER VISITS KUPLI ORCHID RESORT As part of the ongoing effort to enhance tourism infrastructure, the Minister of Tourism, Shri. Paul Lyngdoh visited Kupli Orchid Resort in Priang, West Jaintia Hills on July 16. He was accompanied by MLA Nujorki Sungoh, Director of Tourism Brenda L. Pakyntein and officials of the Department. During his visit, Shri. Paul Lyngdoh conducted an inspection of the resort facilities and took a boat ride on the Kupli River to assess its tourism potential. The minister also met with local residents to understand their expectations and suggestions related to tourism. A meeting was held at the resort, where a delegation from the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnongs of Iooski-Saphai Circle submitted a petition urging the government to promote tourism in the 13 villages on the Chutwakhu-Saphai corridor and request these villages be officially declared as tourism zone. The Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong also callled upon the government to prepare a map to bring these villages under the jurisdiction of the Department so that the villagers can have access to government schemes, financial assistance and training programmes. They further emphasised the need to clean and rejuvenate the Kupli River to promote tourism and preserve the environment and surrounding areas. They also suggest promoting water sports and other tourism related sectors along the river. |
