Press Release No. 69/25 CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR LOCAL TRAINING PROVIDERS The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), under the Chief Minister’s Skills Mission launched a comprehensive four-day Local Training Providers (LTP) state level workshop, today, at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong. The state level workshop, chaired by Shri Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Executive Director of MSSDS, scheduled from 1st to 4th July 2025 aims to empower and build capacities, deepen systemic understanding, and foster integration across key thematic areas to strengthen the skilling ecosystem in alignment with the Meghalaya's Vision for FY 2025-26. Shri Jagdish Chelani, outlining the vision of the programme, commended the MSSDS team and expressed optimism that the workshop would empower Local Training Providers (LTPs) to identify steps to enhance their trade expertise, thereby transforming the state’s skilling framework. He urged the LTPs to secure placement partners for trainees, emphasizing their critical role as frontline agents in improving the quality, relevance, and impact of skilling initiatives. A total of 119 empanelled training providers, representing 86 training institutes, will undergo capacity-building sessions conducted by the MSSDS Management team and MSSDS partners in the skilling ecosystem, namely - the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmanship Training (DECT), Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), PRIME Rural, and Avenues. These providers will, in turn, cascade the training to grassroots beneficiaries, ensuring consistent knowledge transfer at the community level. The CM Skills Mission, Shri Chelani highlighted, is a strategic initiative focused on outcome-driven skilling, enhanced utility, and stronger branding for wider impact. Its objectives include: 1. Elevating training quality to enable national-level competitiveness. 2. Expanding the scope and structure of skill development. 3. Fostering institutional integration for sustainable outcomes. The program has been planned to strengthen the capacity of training providers to identify and address skill gaps at the block and village levels, and to initiate targeted support mechanisms for youth both before and after training under the revamped and repurposed CM Skills Mission for the current financial year. This will contribute to institutional strengthening at the state level for effective planning, delivery, and monitoring of high-quality, market-relevant training programs. The workshop reaffirms the state’s commitment to transforming the skilling landscape by equipping youth with market-relevant skills and enabling sustainable livelihoods. |
