Press Release No. 498/05 U LUM SHYLLONG RELAUNCHED A Khasi weekly newspaper ‘U Lum Shyllong’ which started way back in 1977 but discontinued during the early 90’s was relaunched here today at Shillong Press Club by the Meghalaya Minister for PHE etc. Mr.H.D.R.Lyngdoh. The paper which now has been turned into a daily is owned by Mr.B.M.Lanong,MDC from Malki -Nongthymmai Constituency with renowned press persons of the city as the members of the Editorial Board. In his inaugural speech Mr. Lyngdoh expressed his pleasure on the occasion and congratulated the proprietor of the daily for having taken the initiatives to revive the daily. Saying that at present where people crave for information in educational, health, business aspects and in their day to day life, he expressed hope that the daily will be able to cater not only to their needs but would also uphold the journalistic ethics. He also hopes that the daily will be fair, educative, informative and unbiased. Mr. P. Tynsong, CEM, KHADC speaking on the occasion hoped that the paper will act responsively and constructively for the benefit of the society and the state as a whole. Besides being educative, he hoped that it will bring out truth for the benefit of the readers. The Director of Information & Public Relations, Mr. A. Mawlong speaking on the occasion as the Guest of Honour hoped that the daily besides disseminating news would also bring out lights on traditions, arts and informations of the state which would benefit the people. He informed that although competition in the press is evident with 6 major dailies and 4 weeklies in the state, he urged and hoped that the press will maintain the quality of their outputs. Others speaking on the occasion were Mr. B .P .Domes, Editor, Dongmusa and Mr. Tilak Rai, Correspondent, Indian Express. The function was presided over by Mr.B.M.Lanong, MDC and Proprietor, U Lum Shyllong. |
