ILLEGAL COLLECTION OF TAX PROHIBITED

Shillong, 22 July, 2010: The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Mr. Sanjay Goyal has strictly prohibited unauthorized collection of toll/tax from traffic plying along the National Highways, State roads etc in any form or manner in the District. Mr. Goyal in his prohibitory order, stated that certain complaints were received by his office on rampant unauthorized collection of toll/taxes etc, by toll gates and check gates from vehicles plying along the National Highways and State roads within the District of West Garo Hills. Therefore, to stem the growth of this menace Mr. Goyal stated that he was forced to take immediate steps and accordingly, has under section of 144 Cr. PC strictly prohibited the collection of tax/toll etc from vehicles by any unauthorized persons or staffs of toll gates and check gates along the National Highways and State roads within the district. Mr. Goyal further stated that any excess toll collection would amount to violation and would be liable for prosecution.

This order will be in effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice and will extend to the entire West Garo Hills district. However, the prohibited will not be applicable to authorized lessees of markets, toll gates. Check gates, weigh bridges etc who will adhere to the rates fixed by authority under proper receipts.
