Press Release No. 291/22 AWARENESS RALLY ON WATER CONSERVATION HELD The Office of the Divisional Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Jowai Territorial Division, Jowai organized a Rally cum awareness programme as part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan on the Theme Catch the Rain, Where it Falls and When it Falls participated by School Children of Jowai Urban area. The awareness rally was flagged off by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai Shri. P.K Boro from Daimasi Playground, Ladthalaboh. While flagging off the rally he said that this rally is very important and a message has to be given out to the masses because this is the problem that we face these days and we know that the entire world is facing through Mother Earth. Human activities have changed and destroyed the environment. We need to understand the importance of protecting nature. At the same time he advised the students to bring home the message the importance of protecting and conserving water. Creating awareness on Water Conservation, the Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Jowai Territorial Division Shri. T. War said each one of us can contribute to save and preserve water by doing our bit no matter how small each day.We just need to make a commitment to ourselves instead of buying packaging plastic bottles we need to carry along our own water bottle , to make a habit to use biodegradable leaf for food packing instead of foils and plastics and to carry grocery bags from home. Setting by example the Soil and Water Conservation Officer, Territorial Division T. War informed that the whole compound of the office is plastic free. They have been practicing this for the last one year and have also planted the Sla lamet or Phrynium pubinerve leaves in their office compound. He called on each one to make a commitment towards conservation of water. |
Press Release No. 292/22 BIJLI MAHOTSAV ORGANIZED IN RI BHOI, MEGHALAYA AS PART OF AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV The Ministry of Power in association with the Power Department, Government of Meghalaya today organized a Bijli Mahotsav in the Ri Bhoi District. With the active participation of the District Administration of Ri Bhoi at Umsning, the Bijli Mahotsav celebrated the collaboration between the Central and State Governments and highlighted the key achievements of the power sector in the northeastern State. Chief Guest of the programme, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, Smti V A Hynniewta highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth shown by the power sector over the past few years. The Bijli Mahotsav highlighted some of the key areas of progress in the country power sector Increase in generation capacity from 2,48,554 MW in 2014 to 4,00,000 MW today, which is 1,85,000 MW more than the demand addition of 1,63,000ckm of transmission lines connecting the entire country into one grid running on one frequency from Ladakh to Kanyakumari and from Kutch to Myanmar border it has emerged as the largest integrated grid in the world, India generates 1, 63,000 MW through renewable energy sources. India fulfilled its commitment in COP21 that 40 per cent of its generation capacity would be from renewable energy sources by November 2021, 9 years ahead of schedule. The Mahotsav is under the umbrella event Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya Power at 2047, which is being held across the country as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The initiative aims at encouraging more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large. Senior Officials of NEEPCO, Officials of Meghalaya Power Department as well as from District Administration were present at the function. Chairman, Town Dorbar Committee Umsning, Shri Rocky Kylla, and the Rangbah Shnongs as well as villagers of the nearby villages also attended the program. Several beneficiaries also shared their experiences at the event. In order to engage with the visitors and guests, various cultural programmes, a form of theatrical performance in Khasi on the use and benefits of electricity and screening of short films on the power sector were also presented. |
Press Release No. 293/22 TALENT IDENTIFICATION PROGRAMME HELD IN EAST JAINTIA HILLS DISTRICT The Meghalaya State Olympic Association and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with the Edge 10 Group today conducted the State Talent Identification, 2022 for East Jaintia Hills District at Dkhiah East Indoor Hall. The programme is being implemented by the Edge 10 Group under the supervision of Australian Olympian, Ian Campbell. The programme was attended by the Minister of Social Welfare Department, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, etc, Shri. Kyrmen Shylla, Working President, Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Shri. John. F. Kharshiing and the District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Smt. Stephanie .M. Rapsang. The Working President, Meghalaya State Olympic Association, Shri. John. F. Kharshiing in his speech said that the Talent Identification programme has been completed in 10 Districts of the State and East Jaintia Hills District is the 11 District where this programme is conducted. He informed that the Talent Identification testing in Shillong will start from the 26th July, 2022 till 29th July 2022, and he also stated that those students, who have not been able to participate in the testing held in the District, can also participate in Shillong with prior intimation to the Chairman of the Podium Finish Committee MSOA, Shri. Dipshon Ryntathiang. Ian Campbell, Australian Olympian, said that the Edge 10 Group has conducted the Talent Identification testing across ten districts of the State and they have seen promising results from both boys and girls from the age of 10 years and above. He also urged all the participants of the district to give their best to get great results. More than 400 students both boys and girls from various schools in the district participated in the event. The physical test conducted consists of 20M Sprint, 10M Ladder Run, Compass Drill, and Vertical Jump. |
