SKILL UPGRADATION TRAINING FOR SERICULTURE WEAVERS

The eight days Skill Up gradation Training for Sericulture Weavers conducted by the District Sericulture Officer in collaboration with the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood programme (IBDLP), East Garo Hills, concluded on 26th July, 2016 at the premises of the District Sericulture Office, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar. The Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. S C Duggal, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneur (MIE), in his speech lauded the District Sericulture Officer for organizing such a training programme thereby giving opportunities to the beneficiaries and partners to learn the skills in the field. Giving the key-note address, District Sericulture Officer, Mrs. Sanre Momin, urged the trainees to grab the opportunities being provided by the department. She also informed that East Garo Hills is the only district where the scope for Eri rearing facilities had been provided by the department. Others who spoke on the occasion included Mrs. Diana Sangma, Nodal Officer of the IBDLP, Ms. Bullselly Marak, Tourist Officer and Dr. Gracin Sangma, a trainee. On the day, besides displaying of the products, certificates were also distributed to the trainees and partners.

MINING AND TRANSPORTATION OF COAL PROHIBITED

The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in a press release issued, has informed that in continuance of the Order passed under Section 144 CrPC, dated May 16, 2016 and in pursuance of the National Green Tribunal Order, dated April 17, 2016, mining of coal in the entire District is strictly prohibited, besides transportation of coal within or outside the District as well as ferrying or carrying of coal from mines or jungles to the coal depot or stockyard. Dumping of coal on the road sides of the National Highway-44 and PWD roads is also prohibited. Further, the DC prohibits assembly of persons or groups of people and carrying of arms and lethal weapons that may likely to cause injury. Violation of the above conditions will attract strict action as per provisions of the Law. This order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

2ND STATE SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP 2016 CONCLUDES

The 2nd State Shooting Championship 2016 organized by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya (SAM) concluded today at the Assam Regimental Centre, Shillong. The two day championship was conducted by the officials from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shri Dhiraj Kalita and Miss Y. W. Leima. Shri S.K. Jain, DGP, Meghalaya attended the prize distribution programme as the Chief Guest in the presence of Shri Mr. M.S. Rynjah, Executive Director, NEEPCO, Shri. John F. Kharshiiing, President of SAM, Shri. H. M. Shangpliang, Vice President of SAM and Director of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya among others. The shooting championship is conducted for the two age groups of (Junior girls & boys) and 21 yrs and above (Women &Men) and ARC Team. The event includes 10 meter rifle, 10 meter pistol, 22 meter .22 standard pistol, 50 meter .22 peep sight and 50 meter .22 open sight prone position.
