TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENT

The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that the New Road from Earle Sanatorium near City Hut Dhaba to Little Blossom School near Hotel Polo Towers is being made into two way. Vehicles climbing up to Police Bazar from Polo Bazar will have to climb from Orchid Hotel via CM’s Residence. Route from Pegasus Hotel to Magnum Hotel will be made into two way and vehicles coming from City Hut Dhaba Side can enter directly from Hotel Pegasus to Khyndailad. There will be no more ‘Right Turn’ at the Old High Court Junction towards Khyndailad. The entire stretch from Hotel Magnum to Hotel Pegasus and the New Road is hereby designated as ‘No Parking Zone’ for all kinds of vehicles. There is a ‘No Entry’ from Hotel Polo Towers towards Little Blossom School (New Road Junction). In view of the necessity and in the interest of public safety and convenience, the traffic arrangements on the above mentioned roads has been imposed with immediate effect from 5th July, 2017.

MISSION UNITE 2017 LAUNCHED IN AMLAREM CIVIL SUB-DIVISION

The office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Elections), Amlarem launched the Special Enrollment Drive under the theme ‘Mission Unite 2017 U & I towards Enrollment’, through a formal function held today at Enowel Hall, Amlarem. Launching the programme Smti I. Laloo, ADC i/c of Amlarem, urged each and everyone to join hands together in this campaign and make other people aware of their rights, so that they will be encouraged to come forward for enrollment. ‘Inclusion of all eligible voters in the country is imperative for a smooth election and a vibrant democracy’, she added. The programme aims to create awareness and enhance the enrollment of eligible voters from all sections of the society with special emphasis on the ensuing General elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2018. Special enrollment drives have been launched under Mission Unite 2017 and Amlarem Sub-Division is encouraging enrollment drives under the ‘Special Right’ programme. Special Right programmes have already started in Nongtalang Colege and Sohkha Secondary School and will subsequently be expanded to include other places in the sub-division.

ONE STOP CENTRE INAUGURATED

One Stop Centre for Women was inaugurated at Tura, West Garo Hills district catering to the entire districts of Garo Hills region organised by the department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Women’s Economic Development Society (WEDs), Tura. Shri H M Shangpliang, Secretary and Director, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya graced the occasion as Chief Guest. It may be mentioned that the Centre will be operated by the Women’s Economic Development Society (WEDs) Tura in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Medical & Health Officer, Police and legal adviser. The centre will also cater to comprehensive medical care, councelling and emotional support, legal and court activities, provision of temporary shelter and medical reporting for women victims of domestic violence, sexual harrasment, etc. The centre comprises of the Centre Manager, Councellor, Case Worker, IT Personnel and cook which will look after the activities of the victims. While addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, Shri H M Shangpliang expressed his gratitute to all those who had contributed and work tirelessly to make this centre operational. He further informed that since the distance from the headquarters of Tura and Shillong is very far and taking the victims to and fro would create various problems, hence the need for setting up of this centre at Tura for catering to the entire Garo Hills districts of the region. The centre was supposed to be in the vicinity of the Hospital campus but due to non- availability of proper infrastructure the proposed centre has been shifted here which is situated very close to Tura Civil Hospital, he added. Besides, he requested the Medical Superintendent, Tura Civil Hospital to engage Medical Officer who would be available on time in the centre because most of the cases comes towards night time when all kinds of brawl starts in few environs. Stating that the moral values and good age old traditions of the people are fast disappearing he urged especially the church leaders to take the lead and work upon to get hold of a solution to these problems and challenges in our society. Moreover, he seeks the support and cooperation of all to work for the cause and over all development of women in our society.

Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi stated that One Stop Centre which was set up for the rehabilitation of survivors of violence against women would provide short stay for victim of abuse and make things easier for the victim by providing necessary medical attention, psychological counselling, ensure justice and serve the purpose for which it was intended. Executive Director, WEDs, Tura Reverend F D Sangma highlighted the background and importance of One Stop Centre and also expressed to extend not only emotional and psychological support to women who are victims of violence but will also cater to the overall development of women of the region. The Message from the Minister for Social Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, Shri Clement Marak was read by District Social Welfare Officer, Tura Smti Valerie Blah. Earlier in the function Shri L M Momin, Assistant Director, Social Welfare, Meghalaya Shillong welcomed the gathering while District Social Welfare Officer, Smti V Blah proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was also attended by Dr. M Sangma, DM& HO, Tura, Dr. M A Sangma Superintendent, Tura Civil Hospital, officials of line departments, senior citizens, members of WEDs, officials and staff of Social Welfare department from entire districts of Garo Hills.

DISTRIBUTION OF CERTIFICATES TO SUCCESSFUL TRAINEES OF BEAUTICIAN COURSE UNDER SEEKHO AUR KAMAO

The District Planning Branch, West Jaintia Hills District organised a Certificate distribution ceremony for the successful trainees of Beautician course today in the Conference Room, DC’s office,Jowai. S.C Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Planning Officer was the Chief Guest. Asish Jana the Zonal Manager and Micheal Thongni the Assistant Manager of Orion Edutech Pvt.LTD, the implementing agency under Seekho aur Kamao Scheme were also present. Expressing happiness to see many youths taking interest to stand on their own feet, S.C Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner encouraged the students to continue developing their skills and to utilize whatever was imparted to them during the training. He was very optimistic that the successful trainees would be able to earn their livelihood for themselves and their family. He further encouraged them to be confident and put extra effort in their work. Encouraging the trainees to accept placements offered to them, S.C Laloo, requested them to approach the District Administration whenever they received calls for placements. He also assured that full inspection would be investigated from the District Administration before the trainees are send to the workplace, thereby helping them to identify a healthy and secured workplace. Later, he distributed certificate to 110 successful trainees. The programme was chaired by B.J Kharshandi, Extra Assistant Commissioner and the vote of thanks was offered by Iaidbha Phawa, Research Assistant Planning Branch.
