Press Release No. 70/25 KVK SOUTH GARO HILLS OBSERVES WORLD ZOONOSIS DAY Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), South Garo Hills, observes World Zoonosis Day on 6th July 2025 by organizing an awareness programme and animal health camp at Warima village, under theChokpot C&RDBlock. The event aimed to raise awareness about zoonotic diseases—those that can be transmitted between animals and humans—and to promote preventive animal healthcare in the rural community. Under the leadership of Dr. Athokpam Haribhushan, Principal Scientist and Head, the programme included engaging and informative sessions conducted by Dr. Rupam Bhattacharjya (SMS, Livestock Production) and Dr. Tanya R. Marak (SMS, Plant Protection). The discussions centered on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and control of prevalent zoonotic diseases, with an emphasis on community-level awareness and action. To support the outreach efforts, a locally translated leaflet titled “Rabies: Symptoms, Prevention & Control” was distributed among participants, helping to communicate vital information in an accessible and culturally relevant manner. A key highlight of the event was the vaccination of over 30 dogs against rabies, a deadly yet preventable viral disease. Additionally, deworming tablets were provided to livestock and pet owners to help control internal parasites and improve overall animal health. The rabies vaccines for the camp were extended by theClinical Laboratory, Tura, under theDepartment of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Government of Meghalaya. The initiative was warmly received by the villagers, who appreciated the timely intervention and practical knowledge shared. Through such proactive observances of World Zoonosis Day, KVK South Garo Hills continues to strengthen public health awareness, promote animal welfare, and bridge the gap between veterinary science and rural livelihoods. |
