SKILL TRAINING UNDER MEGHALAYA STATE SKILL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY

The Skill training programme for Electrical Domestic Solution and Plumber General under Meghalaya State Skill Development Society at Bosco Pnar Multipurpose Vocational Training centre, Salini Colony, Mihmyntdu was inaugurated today. Shri. Brightstar Chyrmang, MDC, Jowai North grace the occasion as the Chief Quest in the presence of the Skill Development Officer of West Jaintia Hills Dist, Shri. Lambormi Suchen and the Director of Bosco Pnar, Fr. Francisco Dhar.

During his inaugural speech Shri. Brightstar Chyrmang reiterates the importance of skill training. He mentioned that he was an alumni of the Institute, Bosco Pnar, and the skills training he acquired during his training days stood him in good stead. He also pointed to the fact that academic excellence is important for acquiring Jobs but also Skill training in different sectors is also equally important. He stated that MSSDS has invest much and has given ample opportunity for the youth of the state. He encouraged them to seize the opportunity and to take the training seriously.

The Skill Development Officer, Lambormi Suchen informed that the Skill Meghalaya Programme which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma earlier on 8th March 2022. He mentioned that Skill Meghalaya is a cohesive skill formation, entrepreneurship and placement framework for the State based on the current and emerging needs of the economies of the State that envisions to design and implement practical programmes for youth development and youth empowerment. Seeing the problem of unemployment in the State, the Government has come up with such initiative for the youth of Meghalaya. Also he call on the selected Trainees to take importance of the training and not to miss classes as this will help them with their career.

The Director of Bosco Pnar, Fr. Francisco Dhar, exhorted all the candidates for the free skill training to take this opportunity seriously and not waste it. He mentioned that the job role for the training in Electrical Domestic Solution will be 350 hrs and Plumbing General will be 410 hrs, 3 months approx. The beneficiaries of this project will be 100 candidates from Jaintia Hills. He wished God's blessing on all those who avail of this training and all the Project team.

CHESS OLYMPIAD TORCH RELAY

The inaugural launch of the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place at the I.G. Stadium, New Delhi on 19th June 2022 by the Prime Minister of India will reach and halt at Shillong on 9th July, 2022. The official handling over of the Torch by Shri. Mitrba Guha, Grand Master to the Chief Guest will take place at the Indoor Stadium SAI, STC, NEHU Campus, Mawkynroh, Shillong on the 10th July at 8:00 AM.

It may be mentioned that the 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad has been awarded by the World Chess Federation to the All India Chess Federation will be held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu from 28th July to 9th August, 2022. In this edition, FIDE has instituted the 1st ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay to mark the event being held in India, the land where chess originated. The Torch will travel across the country covering 75 iconic locations of the country as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration

CM INAUGURATES NEW DERT BUILDING

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that the Government is laying emphasis to improve elementary education in the State and has come up with a road map to invest in early childhood education programmes. He made the remark while inaugurating the new building of the Directorate of Education Research and Training Annexe at Malki, Shillong, in presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and local MLA Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh. An estimated amount of 8. 33 cr has been spent on the construction of the building, which was funded by Asian Development Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, the Government has been making investments to overhaul the education infrastructure, teachers training at the grassroot level to ensure an enabling environment for learning. He said that Meghalaya is amongst the few States in the country where an early childhood education programme has started. He said that the objective of early childhood education is to ensure that the learning capabilities of the child are tapped to its optimum potential. Talking about performance of the children in higher examinations, the Chief Minister noted that the problem was lack of quality education at the pre and elementary level and hence the Government has come up with a mechanism to provide holistic education from early childhood.

He said that the Government has earmarked 300 cr from the externally aided projects to make investment in early childhood education programmes. He said that different interventions will be made through the programme to ensure that a child grows up in an environment where the entire learning exercise is productive. He stated that the education sector has been accorded priority as through different initiatives the Government aims to achieve the larger goal of making each individual productive that will enable every individual to contribute for the growth and development of the State.

Talking about positioning Meghalaya as top 10 States in the country in the next 10 years, he said that through the education sector teachers can play a pivotal role in shaping the youth, who will become productive citizens of the country. He also urged the teachers to equip themselves with better teaching techniques in sync with the time. Talking about the training institute, he said, at DERT, we will not be just training teachers but we shall work together to ensure the larger interest of the State to shape the future of our children and the State. Through this institute we will ensure that the young students of our State get the right platform to unleash their learning capabilities and which in turn will take Meghalaya forward, he added

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that through this training institute teachers will be given the best training. He said that the Covid 19 pandemic had posed a challenge for the education sector but then it gave opportunity for the policy makers to introduce new interventions in the teaching sector.
