NORTH GARO HILLS TO CELEBRATE FOUNDATION DAY ON JULY 28

Shillong, July 22, 2013: The district of North Garo Hills is all set to celebrate its District Foundation Day on July 27, next at Resubelpara, when it turns one year after attaining district-hood last year as discussed on 19th July 2013.

In this connection, the District Administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner W. Khyllep, has held series of meetings to chalk out various programmes and activities for the day-long celebration.

Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma and local MLA and State Planning Board Chairman Salseng C. Marak will be participating in the celebrations as the chief guest and guest of honour, respectively.

On the same day, Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign Movement will also be launched at Resubelpara simultaneously.

COMMERCE STREAM, IGNOU STUDY CENTRE AT DON BOSCO SCHOOL MENDAL INAUGURATED

Shillong, July 22, 2013: An impressive Drum Ensemble for peace and prosperity was organized by management, staff and students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School at Mendal in North Garo Hills on Friday, to celebrate the opening of the Commerce Stream and IGNOU Study Centre in the institution. On the occasion, the successful students of the school in the last SSLC and HSSLC examinations were also felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, Brigady N. Marak, said that it was a proud moment for the people of the area to have the IGNOU study centre in their own midst and expressed hoped that with the opening of this centre at Mendal many young people of the area would now be able to pursue higher studies without having to go outside. He also expressed his gratitude to Don Bosco School saying that it was the only institution rendering quality education to and all round development of the students in his area.

Also participating in the celebration as the guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills, Wilfred Khyllep congratulated the Principal, teachers and students of the school for their excellent results in the SSLC examinations in the past couple of years. He expressed his gratitude to the school for opening up the Commerce stream because not a single institution in the district had commerce stream, he said, adding that the starting of the IGNOU centre would also be of great help to those students who could not afford to go outside the district or the state for higher studies. The Deputy Commissioner also conveyed the message of hard work as the only key to success for the students.

Father Provincial of Guwahati, Thomas Lakhra in his brief message said that the school has made giant leap by bringing additional courses for the students of area. Dwelling on the education system in the North East Fr. Thomas Lakra said that both formal and non-formal education were changing and stressed on the need for all-round education to help the students stand on their feet.

Principal of the school, Fr. Albert and local leader Zakarias Marak were among others who also spoke on the occasion.

Besides the Drum ensemble, the celebration was also marked by a display of various cultural dances by the students.
