RETREAT ON WATER INAUGURATED AT SOHRA

Shillong, July 24, 2013: The Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya Mr. P B O Warjri, inaugurated the 2 day Retreat on Water organized by the Meghalaya Water Resources Development in association with the Meghalaya Water Foundation (MWF) on the 23rd & 24th July at Polo Orchid Conference Hall, Mawblang, Sohra. Principal Secretary, Water Resources & Planning Mr. R. M. Mishra, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Mr. C.V.D. Diengdoh and other dignitaries were also present at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Warjri expressed his immense pleasure for being able to associate himself with the occasion and at the same time expressed his profound happiness to have the programme organized at Sohra, which is one of the Rainiest place on the planet Earth. He highlighted on climate change which arises out of daily human activities due to lack of awareness and understanding in the pursuit of economic growth and the desire to acquire economic growth and development.

Mr. Warjri therefore stressed upon the need to organize ourselves in terms of water management, to identify the sources of water and the need to preserve and conserve water for human consumption and to protect and rejuvenate the depleted natural resources wherever possible. He stated that our traditions have social control to protect water sources and we need to evolve the way our institution wants by introducing social institutions with a hope to make people aware of the importance of water and to protect the natural resources from depletion.

Others who spoke on the occasion are Mr. R. M. Mishra, Principal Secretary, Water Resources & Planning, Mr. Arvind Kumar, President of India Water Foundation and Mr. Rathin Roy, Facilitator.

Earlier in the programme, Mr. P. Roy, President MWF delivered the welcome address while Mr. A. Swer, CEO, Meghalaya Water Foundation offered the vote of thanks.
