BOOKS ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT RELEASED

Shillong, July 9, 2015: The Executive Officer, State Disaster Management Authority, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) which is engaged in the management of disasters in the State and which has been constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 has prepared and released 2 (two) books entitled, “Dos and Don’ts on Various Hazards” and “Gender Mainstreaming in Disaster Management” today in the Office Chamber of the Executive Officer, Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority, Shillong in the presence of the officials of the SDMA and the Directorate of Land Records & Survey, Shillong

Dos and Don’ts on Various Hazards has been compiled by Shri Surajit Bordoloi, Consultant, Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority and Gender Mainstreaming in Disaster Management has been prepared for Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority by Ms Maitreyee Mukherjee, Gender Consultant. These books will be useful for creating awareness in the field of Disaster Management.

INAUGURATION OF BOAT HOUSE AT MARNGAR LAKE

Shillong, July 9, 2015: Dr D.D Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya today inaugurated the Boat House at Marngar lake, Marngar, Ri Bhoi District in the presence of Shri Kennedy C. Khyriem, Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism as a Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries present in the programme includes Shri Julius Dorphang, MLA of Mawhati Constituency, Shri C.K Das, IAS (Retd) and member of NEC, Smti R.V. Suchiang, Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, Shri W. Synrem, Economic Adviser, NEC, Smti. R. C. Sohkhlet, Director Tourism, Shri R.Syiem, Syiem of Raid Marngar, officers from various departments and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lapang lauded the Tourism department and other line developmental departments for their efforts in taking up the initiatives to develop the Marngar Lake into a beautiful tourist spot. He informed that efforts are being made by the government to provide better infrastructure for the tourism sector in the state so as to facilitate the growth of tourism industry and generate alternate sources of income and provide employment to the unemployed people of the state. Dr Lapang also called upon the people to extend their cooperation with the government in maintaining the overall cleanliness of the lake.

Mr Kennedy stated that God has blessed us with rich natural resources and it is our duty to utilize them for our benefit. He apprised the people of Raid Marngar for preserving the lake and said that tourist spot is one of the phenomenons which can generate employment opportunities.
