SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN CAMPAIGN

The Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Education Department has informed that in order to bring most of the drop out and out of school children to school, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, State Mission Authority through the District Units is launching a massive enrolment campaign from 26th July 2006. Various activities will be undertaken at villages, clusters and Block levels. The community will be made aware the need for educating the children and sending them to school. During the 45 days campaign all the out of school children will be listed and necessary steps would be taken to enroll him or her in a school or EGS Centre. As part of the programme, villages which can ensure 100 percent enrolment would be acknowledged and due recognition given.

The programme will culminate on 8th September 2006, which is World Literacy Day with District and State Level functions.

ICAR HIGHLIGHTS ITS ACHIEVEMENTS

With an aim to highlight its achievement during the 10th Five Year Plan and the latest issues related to Agricultural development in North Eastern Region to be taken up in the 11th Five Year Plan, the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam organized a press conference at Shillong Club on August 01, 2006

Addressing the press, Mr. Buzar Baruah, Director, ICAR said that Agriculture in the country as a whole has been weakened and is going through a phase of stagnation particularly due to the Green Revolution belt being fatigued. The task of improving agricultural growth, therefore, has by and large been shifted towards the rain fed area like that of North Eastern Region. He also said that the country is approaching 11th Five Year Plan with the targeted growth rate of 3.9 percent which could be difficult to achieve unless the farming community are prepared to contribute towards this growth. Informing that in North Eastern Region the production of food grains, milk, meat, egg etc. is less than its actual requirements, he stressed on the need to breach this deficiency and to produce more to contribute to the National growth rate. He also informed that ICAR has recently launched the National Agriculture Innovation Project (NAIP) funded by the World Bank to remove the constraints faced by the farmers in terms of deliverables like seeds and planting material etc. Later he highlighted about the salient research achievements of the ICAR

COACHING FOR CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION

Applications are invited from SC/ST/OBC and other minorities for admission to the coaching class for Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Main (Written) Examination, 2006 at the India Services Pre-Examination Training Centre, Additional Secretariat Building (MATI) Shillong

Coaching will be imparted in Arts and Science subjects excluding Indian Languages through the English medium. The cost of coaching expenses within the sanctioned limit will be borne by the Centre. No hostel facilities are available, but the outstation trainee candidates admitted into the coaching course will be eligible for a stipend of Rs. 700/- per month. Local trainees candidates admitted will be entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs. 225 per month

The last date of receipt of applications by the Centre is within 14 days from the date of publication of the results of the Civil Services Preliminary (Qualifying) Examination, 2006 by the Union Public Services Commission. CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF SCOUTING

In her brief speech, Mrs. Suchiang emphasized the need to inculcate the scouting discipline, sharing and self-reliance in the mind of the youth.
