Press Release No. 289/12 CHIEF MINISTER LAUNCHED THE WEB PORTAL FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION WITH MEGHALAYA EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGE Shillong, August 10, 2012: The Chief of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma today launched the web portal for online registration with Meghalaya Employment Exchanges today at the main Secretariat building at Shillong. Terming the launch of the web portal as a befitting initiative by the government in light of this being the ‘Year of the Youth’, Dr. Sangma said that this is a youth oriented programme that has been launched today and expressed his hope that this will be justice done to job seekers and the youth of the state. Stating that anything new, creative and innovative is good, Dr.Sangma said that such programmes generate lots of interest and hope. Dedicating the launch of the web portal to the people of the State particularly the job – seekers, Dr. Sangma said that the web portal will help the government reach out to more people. He added that what is being seen today is a trend whereby most of the youth in the state do not have the inclination to go to the employment exchange office and register themselves as job – seekers. “Obviously there are reasons for this and we have come to understand these reasons. Therefore it became necessary for the government to have this particular facility in place,” Dr. Sangma said. “It is important for all of us to use the technology available to us to improve efficiency in the matter of governance which helps the State and helps the people as a whole,” Dr. Sangma opined. It has always been the commitment of the current government to ensure that we deliver what we committed otherwise people will have no reason to listen to our promises,” said Dr. Sangma while terming the launch of this web portal as a delivery of a commitment made at the last budget session of the Assembly. Dr. Sangma assured that it will be the effort of the government to ensure that there is effective and successful utilisation of this facility. Informing those gathered at the event that the Government of Meghalaya is finalising the Industrial Policy, Dr. Sangma said that there will be a clause in the Policy where it will be binding on all the industries to indicate their requirement for employees in various categories. “Because the policy of the government to promote and attract investment in the state is quite attractive as there are quite substantial incentives being provided to the industries, the obligation of these industries is to provide jobs to the locals," Dr.Sangma said. “Therefore we will ensure that there is an enabling component in the Industrial Policy which is being amended to make it binding on the part of the industries to become effective partners in this particular programme,” he said. The chief minister also opined that there can be a practical, visible achievement if there is an effective partnership between the government, the employment exchange and other partner departments. Dr. Sangma also stressed on the importance of a system being put in place where the District Selection Committees and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission to upload their advertisements besides information about various job opportunities on this web portal. It may be noted that this web portal is modelled after the Rojgar Wahini Portal which is being implemented in Maharashtra which received the CSI – Nihilet Award in the year 2008 and can be accessed online at http://dectmeg.nic.in Among others present in the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Rowell Lyngdoh, Chief Secretary, Mr W M S Pariat, Principal Secretary, Mr N S Samant and Technical Director, NIC, Pune, Mrs Poonam Gupta. |
