AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY FARMING

A One Day Awareness programme on Livestock and Poultry Farming and Meghalaya State Livestock Mission organized by the Office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the Block Development Officer, Sohiong C&RD Block was held today at Sohiong C&RD Block. Shri H.D.R. Lyngdoh, Minister, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary and local MLA graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by Shri P.S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Dr. B.Rijal, Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Shri D. Hynniewta, Project Director, DRDA, East Khasi Hills, Shri. M. A. Challam, i/c BDO, Sohiong, C&RD Block, Shri B. Sohliya, OSD, MIE, Dr. (Mrs) A.Pakyntein, District A.H. & Veterinary Officer, East Khasi Hills and farmers from villages under Sohiong C&RD Block.

While addressing the gathering Shri Lyngdoh said the farmers of the areas are fortunate to have such an awareness programme on livestock and poultry farming which is very important to increase their livestock and poultry rearing especially in this area where the environment is suitable for rearing of poultry. He also urged the farmers to go for large scale farming so as to earn higher profit margins. Shri Lyngdoh said that State Livestock Mission launched by the Chief Minister recently, aimed at creating livelihood opportunities for the rural farmer and also provides employment opportunities through livestock and poultry rearing in their own backyards. He also emphasized on the ready availability of market for livestock products as the State depends largely on other States for supply of raw meat and poultry products

The inaugural session was followed by the technical session presented by Dr. R. K. Marbaniang and Dr.(Ms) I.Warjri, A.H.&V. Officers on the topics ‘Impact of Livestock and Poultry Farming on Rural Livelihoods’ and ‘Common diseases affecting Livestock and Poultry and their Zoonotic importance’.

E- DISTRICT SERVICES INAUGURATED

The first ever e -District Services for the Districts and Sub-Divisions of Garo Hills region was officially inaugurated today at DRDA Conference Hall, West Garo Hills, Tura by Mr. D P Wahlang, Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Information Technology Department on12th August, 2017. Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Mr D P Wahlang congratulated the officials and staff for the success of this project and said that this is a mission mode project which is being provided by the government of India. He informed that initially six services would be included namely, issuance of Schedule Caste Certificate, Schedule Tribe Certificate, Permanent Resident Certificate for Higher Studies, Residential Certificate, Income Certificate and Certificate for Recruitment into Armed, Paramilitary or Police Forces.

Mr. Wahlang said that the main objective of the e-Services is to facilitate the citizens in availing different services provided by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office of the district in a transparent and citizen friendly manner. Moreover, he informed that now the applicants can apply from any Common Service Centres (CSCs), Kiosks, Internet Browsing Centre, Home and Public Facilitation Centre (at DC’s office) without any difficulty and relevant SMS would be triggered to the applicant during processing till completion of certificate. He also mentioned that the main challenges faced all over the state is connectivity and expressed hope that with the coming of new service providers in the state the problem of connectivity might be solved at a later stage. Altogether, 34,000 certificates had been issued so far to the people of the state and is targeting about 1 lakh applicants by 31st March 2018, he added.

Mr. E Lyngwa, Principal Consultant, IT Department explained in detail about the procedures followed in order to make the e-District Services available to the people of the State. He said that changing the process from physical to digital process is not an easy task and demands hard work and dedication from those involved in this particular work. He hopes that the facility will help the people to apply hassle free applications from anywhere provided there is availability of internet service. Among others present at the function were Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi, B Tiwari, Special Officer, IT Department, Sabrella B Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Rezia Ch Sangma, EAC, West Garo Hills, district officials and officials and staff of IT Department from all districts.
