NOTIFICATION

Shillong, August 13, 2012: In view of the upgradation of the Mawkyrwat Civil Sub-Division of West Khasi Hills District into a full-fledged District, the Government of Meghalaya has notified the boundaries of the South West Khasi Hills District with its headquarter at Mawkyrwat.

The new district comprises of all the villages of two Community Development Blocks viz, Ranikor C & RD Block and Mawkyrwat C & RD Block including 18 villages under Warsan Lyngdoh Gram Sevak Circle of Nongstoin C & RD Block.

The boundary is bounded to the North by West Khasi Hills District, South by Bangladesh, East by East Khasi Hills District and West by West Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills Districts.

Shillong, August 13, 2012: In view of the upgradation of the Ampati Civil Sub-Division of West Garo Hills District into a full-fledged District, the Government of Meghalaya has notified the boundaries of the South West Garo Hills District with its headquarter at Ampati.

The new district comprises of all the villages of two Community Development Blocks viz, Betasing C & RD Block and Zik Zak C & RD Block including 33 villages under Mukdangra Gram Sevak Circle and Garobhada Gram Sevak Circle of Selsella C & RD Block, 24 villages under Okkapara Songma Gram Sevak Circle and Chengkuregre Gram Sevak Circle of Gambegre C & RD Block, 13 villages under Jarangkhona Gram Sevak Circle of Dalu C & RD Block and Anggalgre village of Rongkhongre Gram Sevak Circle of Rongram C & RD Blocks.

The boundary is bounded to the North by Assam and West Garo Hills District, South by Bangladesh, East by West Garo Hills District and West by Assam and Bangladesh.

PUBLIC CONVEYANCE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Shillong, August 13, 2012: The District Administration has arranged free conveyance for the public who wish to attend the Independence Day Celebration to be held on 15th August, 2012 at 2nd Ground, Polo Ground, Shillong.

CM MEETS UNION HOME MINISTER ASKS FOR BOUNDARY COMMISSION FOR MEGHALAYA ASSAM

Shillong, August 12, 2012: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Sunday met Home Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde at New Delhi and urged him to expedite the constitution of a Boundary Commission to “re-examine and re-define the inter-state boundary between Meghalaya and Assam.”

Informing the Union Home Minister that a resolution adopted for this Boundary Commission in the Meghalaya Assembly was forwarded to the Ministry in April 2011, Dr Sangma said that “no feedback has been received from the Ministry of Home Affairs so far in the matter.”

In a letter that he handed over to the Union Home Minister, Dr Sangma said, “There have been serious differences between Assam and Meghalaya on the matter of inter-state boundary ever since the state of Meghalaya came into existence.” The Chief Minister said that various efforts have been made to find an amicable solution to this vexed issue but without any tangible outcome. “This has caused immense hardship to the people living along the border and has also led to violent incidents at times,” he further added in the letter.

Dr Sangma informed Mr Shinde that since no mutually acceptable solution has emerged through bilateral efforts made so far, a resolution was passed by the Meghalaya Assembly in the last Budget session. It unanimously resolved that the “Government of India be moved to constitute a Boundary Commission to re-examine and re-define the inter-state boundary between Meghalaya and Assam acceptable to both the states having regard to the Constitutional provisions while giving due weightage to historical, ethnic and linguistic linkages.”

Dr Sangma urged the Home Minister to constitute the Boundary Commission on “priority so that a lasting solution to this long pending problem is found.”

The borders of the two states have witnessed a spate of unrests in recent past and the Chief Minister said he wanted an expeditious resolution to this issue.
