INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION, 2022

Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya, today celebrated the 76th Independence Day across the state. In the state capital Shillong, Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 22 Parade Contingents comprising of the Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, East Khasi Hills DEF, 1st MLP Bn, SF10, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides, St. Edmunds Higher Secondary School, St.Marys Higher Secondary School, St Anthonys Higher Secondary School, Nongrah Presbyterian Secondary School, Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Mawngap District Christian Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Unitarian Higher Secondary School, St Josephs Girls Higher Secondary School, Shullai Progressive Secondary School, Seven Set Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya Police Public School, Horse riding contingent of Assam Rifles Public School and brass band of Border Wing Home Guards.

During the occasion, the Chief Minister released a Special Cover on 75 years of India s Independence in the presence of Chief Post Master General, NE Circle, Shri Subrat Das.

The Chief Minister also handed over prizes to the winners of the Locality Beautification and Enhancement Competition wherein Dorbar Shnong Nongrim Hills, Dorbar Shnong Mawlai Iewrynghep and Jail Road Welfare Committee bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. The Peoples Choice Best Locality Award on the basis of the highest number of votes online goes to Dorbar Shnong Nongmensong, Best Street Art Locality goes to Dorbar Shnong Wahingdoh and the Best Street Art Artist was bagged by Dorbar Shnong Laban.

The names for Police Medal for Meritorious Service to Shri Lakador Syiem, Commandant, 6th Battalion Meghalaya Police, Umran Ri Bhoi District, Shri Bikram D Marak, Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills, Shri T C Chacko, Deputy Commandant, 4th MLP Battalion, Vikaspuri, Police Line, New Delhi and Shri Galdinson R Marak, AB Inspector, Kote, Meghalaya, and Union Home Minister s Medal for Excellence in Investigation, 2022 to Meghalaya Deputy SP, Shri Pyrkhatlang Suchiang were announced. Further, Home Guards and Civil Defence Medals for Meritorious Service to Shri Kharnesh A. Sangma, Sub Inspector HG and Shri T. Marbaniang, Havildar HG were also announced on the occasion.

On the occasion, prizes were distributed to the winners of March Past who took part in the Independence Day celebration wherein the 1st Prize was bagged by St. Marys Higher Secondary School, Nongrah Presbyterian Secondary School emerged 1st Runners up and Seven Set Higher Secondary School bagged the 2nd Runners up trophy.

The other highlights of the day includes cultural programmes, presentation of Kayakalp Awards to Tura Civil Hospital which bagged the award for Best District Hospital and Eco friendly Health Facilities, Best Community Health Centre to Sohiong CHC, Best Primary Health Centre was bagged by Jongkha PHC and Health and Wellness Centre to Thynroit Sub Centre. The Commendation Award was bagged by Reid Provincial Chest Hospital, Pomlum PHC, Kharang Sub Centre and Lyngkhoi Sub Centre in the category of Best Hospital, Best PHC and Best Health and Wellness Centre respectively.

INDEPENDENCE DAY 2022 CELEBRATION ACROSS THE STATE

At Tura, the Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 13 marching contingents comprising of 2nd MLP Battalion Goeragre, Tura DEF, National Cadet Corps Boys and Girls from Tura Government College, Don Bosco College, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Pechon Memorial School, Scouts Troop and Guide Company from St. Marys School and Band Party from 2nd MLP Battalion, Tura at Matchakolgre L P School Playground, New Tura. Other highlights of the day include Tableau presentations by different departments of the district and cultural items befitting the occasion. Certificates of Appreciation were also distributed to officers and staff of the police department and Babadam PHC. SSLC and HSSLC Toppers and Meritorious students and Teachers of the district were also felicitated on the occasion. An Exhibition Football match between DC XI, Tura versus District Football Association was also held at Artificial Turf, Chandmary Playground, Tura.

At Nongstoin, Water Resources Minister, Shri Brolding Nongsiej hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 12 parade contingents comprising the police, home guards, Scouts and Guides and school students at St. Peters Higher Secondary School playground Pyndengrei Nongstoin. At Nongpoh, C and RD Minister, Shri Hamletson Dohling hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 27 marching contingents comprising of Ri Bhoi DEF, 6th MLP Bn., Umran, Meghalaya Home Guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides, schools, a band party from Savio Hr.Sec School and horse riding contingent at NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh. At Jowai, Transport Minister, Shri Dasakhiatbha Lamare hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 32 contingents comprising of the District Police, NCC cadets from H.K Singh Memorial Secondary School, Junior Division, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides and 27 schools at Jrisalein Playground, Chutwakhu.

At Williamnagar, MLA, Shri Marcuise N Marak hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 30 marching contingent comprising of schools, Scouts and Guides and East Garo Hills DEF at Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School playground. Colourful cultural programme, felicitation of sports achievement in the state level Inter School Athletic Meet 2022, felicitation of sports achievement in Khelo India Youth Games 2022 were the other highlights of the day. Ferando Secondary School and Vidya Mandir Secondary school bagged the first and second prize respectively in the march past. The Chief Guest also gave away certificates and cash to the best primary health centre in the district to Dobu Primary Health Centre, East Garo Hills. At Baghmara, MLA, Shri Thomas A Sangma hoisted the Indian National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 15 marching contingents at District Sports office playground Baghmara. At Resubelpara, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, Shri Timothy D Shira hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 26 parade contingents comprising of MLP Battalion, NCC, Scouts & Guides, school contingents and a Brass Band Party at Mini Stadium Resubelpara. As part of the programme, athletes who brought laurels to the district by winning the Team Champions Title at the recently concluded state level Chief Minister’s Inter School Athletic Meet 2022 at Shillong were presented with scholarship awards sponsored by District Sport Promotion Society, North Garo Hills.

At Mawkyrwat, PHE Minister, Shri Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 7 marching contingents comprising the police and the NCC of Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat at Nativity Higher Secondary School playground, Mawkyrwat. Other highlights of the day were Cultural Items, Food distributions to inmates of CHC and PHC and children of Hope Orphanage, Mawlangwir Mawkyrwat which was followed in the evening by a friendly Football Match between the Officers of South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills District. At Ampati, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Shri James P. K. Sangma hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 14 parade contingents consisting of Meghalaya Police, Scouts & Guides and NCC at Ampati Mini Stadium.

At Khliehriat, Social Welfare Minister, Shri Kyrmen Shylla hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 26 marching contingents comprising of the police, NCC, Scouts & Guides and schools at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School Playground. At Mairang, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the marching contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police, Home Guards, Scouts & Guides and school students at Madan Dommawlum. Other highlights of the programme include cultural items presented by school students of the district and distribution of academic awards to meritorious students of the SSLC and HSSLC examinations. After the programme, floral wreaths were also laid by the dignitaries at the statue of U Tirot Sing Syiem located at Madan Mot Tirot, Mairang Mission.

At Sohra Civil Sub Division, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 16 parade contingents at Sohra Sports Stadium, Saitsohpen. At Amlarem Civil Sub Division, Education Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui hoisted the National Flag and took the Rastriya Salute of 6 contingents comprising of Police and Schools at Amlarem Subdivision Sports Association Mini Stadium, Ladjaplem. At Dadenggre Civil Sub Division, MLA, Shri Abdus Saleh hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 13 parade contingents at Dadenggre Public Playground. At Pynursla Civil Sub Division, MLA, Shri Macmillan Byrsat hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 14 parade contingents at Urksew Umkor Pynursla Sport Club Stadium. At Chokpot Civil Sub Division, Sub Divisional Officer, Civil, Chokpot Civil Sub Division, Shri Raymond Shira hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 4 parade contingents at ME School Playground Chokpot. At Raksamgre Civil Sub Division, Sub Divisional Officer, Civil, Raksamgre Civil SubDivision, Shri N Hajong hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 11 parade contingents at Raksamgre High School Playground.

At Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division, MLA, Shri Gigur Myrthong hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 16 parade contingents of the police and the school students at Riangdo Playground. At Ranikor Civil Sub Division, MLA, Shri Pius Marwein hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the parade contingents comprising of 4 Schools at a programme held at Nolikata playground, Ranikor. At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit, MLA, Shri Sosthenes Sohtun hoisted the National flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 10 parade contingents at Patharkhmah ground. At Hima Shangpung Laskein C and RD Block, MLA, Shri Comingone Ymbon hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute at Hula Playground Moosyiem, Shangpung.
