Press Release No. 292/08 SECTION 144 CRPC PROMULGATED The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC regulating the loading capacity of coal laden trucks plying through Nongstoin-Shillong Road within the permissible limit of 12 tonnes. The District Magistrate also informed that plying of such overloading coal laden trucks may cause damage to the road and bridges which may also affect the smooth flow of traffic thereby resulting inconvenience to the public. This order comes into immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders. |
Press Release No. 293/08 RAJIV GANDHI AKSHAY URJA DIWAS TO BE OBSERVED As part of the observation of the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Diwas, the District Administration, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, will organize a rally on the theme “Renewable Energy” on August 20, 2008. The rally along with placards and banners will start at 8:30 AM from Nongstoin Market and proceeds towards DC’s office via Nonbah and Post Office. The programme will also include drawing and painting competition, extempore speech, group dance, fancy dress competition and group songs. |
Press Release No. 294/08 MULTI COLOUR FOUNTAIN INAUGURATED A Rs. 10.00 lakhs multi colour Fountain, the first of its kind in Garo Hills, was dedicated to the people of Tura by the Chairman, State Planning Board, Mr. P A Sangma. The inaugural function of the installation of the fountain was held outside the MP Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura on August 16, 2008. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Sangma said that with a vision to make Tura one of the best towns in the North East, he also planned to construct a flyover from Ringrey to Chandmary, Childrens’ Park and Green Park at Araimile, Hawakhana and Rongkhon. He also informed that the first ever four-lane within a town is being constructed from Araimile to Dakopgre to ease traffic congestion. Therefore he urged upon the public to cooperate and work together with the government for the all round development of the town and the District as a whole. Ms. Agatha K Sangma, MP Lok Sabha, who attended the inaugural function as the Guest of Honour, said that the fountain has been constructed with love and affection for the people of Tura, therefore she called upon the people to take good care and properly maintain the multi colour fountain. Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion included MP Rajya Sabha, Mr. Thomas A Sangma and the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills District, Mr. E P Kharbhih. |
Press Release No. 295/08 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATED IN THE STATE Together with the rest of the country, the 62nd Independence Day was celebrated in all the District and Sub-Divisions of the State in a grand manner. At Nongstoin, West Khsi Hills District, the day was celebrated at St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School playground wherein the Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister incharge Home, etc, Mr. H S Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag to the tune of the National Anthem and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 23 marching contingents comprising of the Police, NCC, school and college students. Other highlights of the day included exhibition of arms seized by the police, equipment of Fire Services, Cultural programme, distribution of awards to the meritorious students of HSSLC and SSLC, distribution of food to the patients of Civil Hospital, TB Hospital, Nongstoin, Green Pastures Home, St. Peter’s Orphanage at Pyndengrei, sports for children and football match between Officers XI and Sordar XI. At Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Paul Lyngdoh hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 14 marching contingents comprising of the police, Guides and school students at an impressive function held at the NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem. Other highlights of the day included songs and dances presented by the students and a football match between Nongpoh XI Sports Club and Ferrando Sports Club. At Mairang Civil Sub-Division, the day was celebrated in a befitting manner at KSA Stadium with local MLA and Chairman, MIDC Mr. M Lyngdoh unfurling the tricolor and taking the rashtriya salute of 14 contingents of students headed by the 3rd MLP Bn. Mairang Constituency Educational Excellence Award was also given away on the day to meritorious students of the Sub Division. The other crowd-pulling events of the day included an Independence Day Exhibition participated by various government departments and various sports activities. The people were also enthralled by a rock concert performed by Native Rules and Plaque Throat, prominent rock bands of Shillong. At Dadenggiri, Mr. James K Sangma, Parliamentary Secretary for Mass and Elementary Education unfurled the Tricolour and took the salute. At Mawshynrut, the celebration was held at Riangdo Sports Complex wherein the Meghalaya Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. A Pariong hoisted the Tricolour and took the salute of the parade contingents of police and students. Other programmes included presentation of certificates and trophies to the students who secured first division with distinction in the last SSLC examination. |
