ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE MCSOA 2022 HELD

The Annual Conference of the Meghalaya Civil Services Officers Association 2022 was held today at the State Convention Centre, Shillong. Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri D P Wahlang attended the programme as Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri D P Wahlang stressed on the importance of skilling, reskilling, upskilling and capacity building of both the junior as well as senior officers, especially in this new age of digitization. He also stressed on the importance of having empathy as an officer, and to understand the problems of members of the public when they come to the officers to share their hardships. He also urged the officers to deal with the public coming to them with love, affection and empathy and to be grateful with the position they’re holding and the power and privileges they have to solve the problems of public. Shri Wahlang also encouraged the officers to get over the fear of failure, he stressed that as officers, failure is part of the job but they should not be scared or discouraged rather they should move forward and move on and take decisions to ensure that people’s lives are positively impacted.

The Chief Secretary also highlighted the need for financial planning for the junior officers so as to have secure savings when they retire. He also encouraged the officers to have a healthy lifestyle, although all of us know that health is very important yet we tend to neglect it, he added.

Others who spoke included Dr Vijay Kumar, Commissioner of Division for Garo Hills, Shri C V D Diengdoh, Secretary Personnel and AR Department. The Conference saw the participation of Meghalaya Civil Services Officers from various parts of the state.

CHIEF MINISTER INAUGURATES NEW CTE BUILDING IN TURA

The Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, in the presence of the Chief Adviser, Thomas A Sangma, the officials from the education department and the district administration inaugurated the new building of the College of Teacher Education at Rongkhon in Tura on 19 August.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the chief minister said that in the last four and half years our education system and over-all economic situation improved in the state but education has been a big challenging sector as a whole and the Govt. has prioritized education since 2018. Lamenting the lack of clear directions or policies for moving forward to ensure the over-all and holistic approach for improving the education sector, he said that his Govt. had identified the systematic problems and have made substantial investment much higher compared to the previous years in education.

The Chief Adviser to the Chief Minister, Thomas A Sangma, while speaking on the occasion said that the world of education is changing rapidly for which we need quality infrastructures to keep the pace with.

The Director of DERT, John P Lakiang, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of a teacher and informed that this Govt. has laid a lot of emphasis on youth. The Principal of CTE, Rongkhon, Dr. Meena A Sangma, in her speech informed that in this state of the art building, there are 119 class-rooms, separate rooms for teaching faculties, etc. and said that this CTE is one of the best institutions in the state. While highlighting the needs of the institution, she informed that 90 posts of teaching faculty need to be created and filled up.

The Additional Director of Higher and Technical Education, A Ali Nagi, while delivering the welcome address, informed the gathering that this new building have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 18 crores funded by the Asian Development Bank’s Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya and said that this institution will fulfill the need for B.Ed and M.Ed courses as per the NCTE norms and standards.
