SECTION 144 CRPC

The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting trucks from plying over the Bridge on the River Ri Manar, in the Sutnga-Sumer Road carrying load beyond 18 MT and all vehicles passing through the Bridge are required to restrict the load within the permissible limit of 18 MT, as the condition of the Bridge is very old and poses a threat to public safety as overloading may lead to collapse of the Bridge and resulting to disruption of Traffic and causes inconvenience to the general public. The Order is necessitated in view of the report received from the Executive Engineer PWD (Roads), NEC Division, Khliehriat that the gross overall capacity of bridge No. 20/1 over river Ri Manar on Sutnga Sumer road is 18 Metric Tonnes only and despite the restriction and promulgation of Section 144 CrPC issued by the District Magistrate from time to time yet heavy loaded trucks are still plying beyond the permissible load of 18 MT over the Bridge. This Order shall come into force with immediate effect and until further Orders.

FIELD LEVEL FINANCIAL AWARENESS EVENT BY RESERVE BANK OF INDIA, SHILLONG

A field level Financial Awareness Event was held at Lamin Village, Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills, on 23rd August 2018. The event was held as part of the financial inclusion agenda of the Reserve Bank of India. Delivering the keynote address Anurag Asthana, GM and Officer in Charge RBI Shillong, highlighted the importance of financial literacy and financial inclusion for the benefit of the general public. He spoke at length about the functions and activities of the RBI and also urged upon the stakeholders including banks and government departments to create awareness among the general public and to work towards providing the best possible services. “The unfilled gaps in regulation or lack of awareness among the public is often taken advantage of by dubious individuals and agencies to commit fraud”, he further added. The RBI officials through their interactive presentations informed the gathering on the need for financial planning and budgeting, precaution from fraudulent e-mails, SMS, phone calls and fraudulent companies, grievance redress mechanism in the banking system, features of genuine currency notes, the need for maintaining credit discipline, new developments in the field of digital transactions such as UPI, BHIM, USSD,etc. The programme was attended by senior officers from RBI, officials from different banks operating in West Jaintia Hills District, district line departments, members of the local dorbar and villagers from the area.
