Press Release No. 365/09 PRESS RELEASE Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr D D Lapang today attended the review meeting on the progress of implementation of the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (NREGS) taken up in the State of Meghalaya which was initiated by C&RD Minister, Mr M M Danggo. The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary, Mr Ranjan Chatterjee, Principal Secretary C&RD, Mr C D Kynjing and also the Deputy Commissioners, Project Directors of DRDA from all the Districts, SDO(Civil)s and BDOs. During his speech, Dr Lapang said that the main objective of the NREGS is to bring about a radical change in the economic condition of the State by empowering the people especially those who live below the poverty line. He stressed on the effective implementation of the scheme so that the purpose is not defeated and that the target groups are benefitted. Dr Lapang urge the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that improvement has to be made in the progress of implementation of the scheme in the State and also to see that no delay is caused at any levels of implementation and the guidelines of the scheme should be adhered to at all cost. He also stated that there should be good cooperation among Officers at all levels and also that they should be people friendly in their approach and also to ensure that the goals of the Government are achieved. Dr Lapang also urge upon the DCs to see that the list of BPL families is updated and also to ensure that the deserving people are not deprived of the facility provided by the Government. He also stressed on the need to regulate the Public Distribution System in all the districts of the State so that people are benefitted. |
