Press Release No. 618/07 MEGHALAYA CHIEF SECREATARY VISITS EPIP The Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Mr. Ranjan Chatterjee accompanied by the Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. W. M. S. Pariat today visited the Export Promotion Industrial Park at Byrnihat. Mr. Chatterjee inspected the various Industries set up in the Industrial Park to acquaint himself the facilities available for the industrial units. Earlier in the day, he had an interaction and discuss a wide range of issues with the industrialists and also the scope for the establishment of new industrial units in the park. Amongst those present in the interaction are the Commissioner and Secretary, Industries Department Mr. A. Som, Director of Industries Mr T. K. Chakraborty and the Managing Director, MIDC, Mr. J. R. Myrboh. |
Press Release No. 619/07 CELEBRATION OF RAJIV GANDHI AKSHAY URJA DIWAS AT TURA Mr. Billykid A.Sangma local MLA attended the closing function of the week long celebration of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas or Renewable Energy Day held on August 28, 2007 at the District Auditorium, Tura. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sangma said that it was high time for the people to realize that conventional energy sources like petrol, diesel and gas would not last for long. While observing that global warming and unprecedented rains occur due to ecological balances, he reminded the gathering that it was the bounden duty of every citizens and individual to protect and safeguard the environment and call upon the people to opt for alternative sources of energy which are eco friendly. During the funPction, the Project Officer, MNREDA, Ms. Sheila K. Sangma presented audio visual power point on Renewable Energy. Celebration includes Marathon race, quiz, debate, poster, drawing and painting competition on the theme scientific use of renewable energy sources. Other highlights of the celebration includes giving certificates along with cash prize to the winners, presentation of skit, songs and dances by school children. The function was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tura Ms. F.C.A. Sangma, while the Member Secretary, DAC, MNREDA, Tura, Mr. R. P. Marak delivered the welcome address. |
Press Release No. 620/07 LAPANG ATTENDS FELICITATION OF SYIEM OF HIMA MYRWET Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. D.D. Lapang today attended the felicitation programme of Ken Syiem, the Syiem of Raid Myrwet, Baridua, Ri Bhoi District, by Basan of Raid Nongkseh of Hima Mylliem. The felicitation programme was chaired by the ex-Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Pa’iem Laborious Manik Syiem. Before the felicitation ceremony of the new Syiem, traditional rites and rituals was performed by the Basan of Raid Nongkseh. Dr. Lapang in his brief speech as the chief guest at the felicitation function said that the tribal of North Eastern States especially Meghalaya is fortunate as their cultural and traditional rights is being safeguarded by the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Stating that the Government in order to provide better health facilities to the weaker section of the society is implementing the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), he urged upon the people to avail the opportunity being provided to them under this Mission. He further informed that the Government is implementing the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to provide employment to a member of a household for a period of hundred days. Others who spoke on the occasion were, Mr. J D Rymbai, Chairman, MEDC, Mr. W Mynsong, Deputy CEM, KHADC, Mr. Latho Manik Syiem, Syiem of Hima Mylliem and Mr. John Kharshiing. The highlights of the day included songs and dance performed by the students of the area. |
