SHG MELA HELD AT UMLYNGKA VILLAGE

The Office of the Block Development Officer, Mylliem Cand RD Block, Shillong today organised a SHG Mela at Umlyngka Village, Upper Shillong. Shri Hamletson Dohling, C and RD Minister and local MLA attended the programme as Chief Guest and Shri Lambor Malngiang, Nongkrem MLA as Guest of Honour.

Speaking at the inaugural programme Shri Hamletson Dohling informed the gathering that the National Rural Livelihoods Mission is the flagship programme of the central government aimed at providing sustainable income to rural BPL households through income generating assets and economic activities in order to bring them out of poverty and also to promote the livelihoods of women. He also expressed happiness to be a part of the 1st SHG Mela under Mylliem Block. Shri Dohling stated that the objective of this Mela is to provide a platform for the SHGs to showcase their talents in the form of unique products and also to sell their products, he also stated that it is also an opportunity for the SHGs to share and interact with each other and exchange ideas and views.

The minister also expressed his gratitude to the MRSLS and NRLM for their hard work in reaching out to various villages in order to sensitize the public about the benefits of setting up SHGs. He stated that in the year 2018 there were a mere 6000 SHGs in the state whereas presently there are over 45,000 SHGs operating in the state. While lauding the women groups for coming together and forming these SHGs, he also urged upon them to pass on the message to others in order to achieve maximum participation under Mylliem Block. Shri Dohling also stressed that the SHGs should have certain criteria for achieving goals as setting targets will instill a sense of competition among themselves which will ultimately result in the production of qualitative and unique products

During the day the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour distributed Computers to 9 VECs, Cheques under Focus to 106 Producer Groups and Sanction Letters to 100 SHGs.

CHIEF MINISTER CONRAD K. SANGMA INAUGURATES NEW SCIENCE BLOCK OF THOMAS JONES SYNOD COLLEGE

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in presence of Minister, Education, Lahkmen Rymbui, MLA, Jowai, Wailadmiki Shylla, inaugurated the new science block of Thomas Jones Synod College at a grand function organised to commemorate the institute’s 25th anniversary in Jowai today. The new building is funded by the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, Government of India.

Speaking on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebrations the Chief Minister said that the youth were the most important resource of the State and the Government has adopted a focused approach to constantly engage with the youth to create the right environment and ecosystem for their development. I call the youth our strength and it is the responsibility of the society, the Government, to create the right environment to channelise and direct the energy of the youth into the right things, he said.

Stating that the youth of the State were naturally talented he said that the present Government in the last four years have formulated many youth centric programmes and initiatives in areas ranging from education, entrepreneurship, music and sports to equip them with a competitive edge and provide a platform to excel in their chosen field. Youth has been the centre of our policy making and what we want to do for the State. And the reason why we are doing that is because the youth is the most important group for the future and the growth of our State in the long run, he said.

During the function the Chief Minister also took time to inform the gathering that sanction has been accorded for different development initiatives to uplift the civil infrastructure and beautification of Jowai town including the construction of the Mini Secretariat.
