JUDICIAL COLLOQUIUM ON ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir today said that human trafficking is a crime against humanity and is the third largest organized crime across the globe. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir said this at the inauguration of a one day Judicial Colloquium on Anti-Human Trafficking, which was organised by the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy here today in the Conference Hall, High Court of Meghalaya. Addressing the Judicial Officers, Police Officers, State Government Officials, State/District Nodal Officers Anti-Human Trafficking, Lawyers, State NGOs etc, the Chief Justice said that "Human trafficking is not only a serious crime but it is a serious human exploitation and that millions of victims of human trafficking are from Asia", the Chief Justice informed. Catastrophe will occur if human trafficking is not stopped and we need to tackle it collectively and together we need to discharge our constitutional obligations to curb this menace, he added. Judge, High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. R. Sen was also present at the inaugural function.

Judicial Colloquium on Anti-Human Trafficking are being held throughout the country to sensitize Magistrates and judges as to how women and children experience the process of law relating to trafficking, to enable Magistrates and judges to take proactive decisions and exercise discretion as provided under the law that will be most beneficial and just to the victim and most stringent to the trafficker and to focus on procedures for speedier disposal of trafficking cases and taking stringent punitive action against traffickers.

JACKFRUIT CUISINE TASTING EVENT HELD

The Meghalaya Institute of Entrepreneurship (MIE) under the stewardship of the Governor’s Secretariat, Shillong had organized a half day interactive session with local restaurateurs and hotel owners on 31st July 2018 which resulted in the formulation and conduct of a training programme for 28 chefs and bakers of 15 local hotels, resorts, cafes and bakeries in the preparation of various dishes from jackfruit which was organized by the MIE and imparted by the Indian Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), Mawdiangdiang from the 9th till the 11th Aug 2018. The training culminated in a display and tasting event of jackfruit themed dishes prepared by these chefs on the 11th August 2018 in the Pinewood Hotel, Shillong and anchored by the Directorate of Food Processing, in which the best dishes, selected by an eminent panel of tasters were suitably recognized.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTRE INAUGURATED

Meghalaya Minister in-charge, Sports and Youth Affairs, Agriculture etc, Shri. Banteidor Lyngdoh today inaugurated the Health and Wellness Centre, Jongksha PHC under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, in the presence of Shri. L. T Tariang, BDO, Mawkynrew CR&D Block, Dr. T.S Nongkhlaw, Director of Health Services (MCH&FW) cum Joint Mission Director, NHM, Meghalaya, Dr. P.Kharpran, Medical and Health Officer, Jongksha PHC, Shri. O.Kharsohnoh, Headman, Jongksha Village, various officials of the Health Department, ASHAs, elders and residents of the area.

During his address at the function, Shri. Lyngdoh stressed on the importance of maintaining health and hygiene even as he said that material riches are of no value when one is unhealthy. The Minister also said that no family is happy in the absence of health and wellness. On the occasion, the Minister also called upon all stake holders including civil society and the public to co-operate with the Government by actively participating in its various schemes, programmes and activities.

It may be mentioned that the Ayushman Bharat Yojana which was launched by the Prime Minister of India aims to transform Sub-centres and Primary Health Centres into Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in the country for implementing public health programmes, better comprehensive primary health care service delivery including diseases prevention and health promotion.
