GOVERNMENT OF MEGHALAYA SIGNED MOU WITH BASIX ACADEMY

Shillong, August 2, 2012: Meghalaya Information Technology Society (MITS), an Information Technology Department Society of Government of Meghalaya had signed Memorandum of Understanding with BASIX Academy for Building Lifelong Employability Limited (B-ABLE), part of BASIX Group on the 1st August 2012 at Shillong. It aims to provide Digital Literacy Program to the people of the state especially in the rural areas.

The MoU was signed by Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, IT Department, Shri D P Wahlang, on behalf of the state government and Shri Abishek Gupta, Vice President of BASIX Academy.

B-ABLE will provide and deliver through Instructor-Led-Training (ILT) for up-to 800 participants the Microsoft Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum for the citizens of the state especially in the rural areas through the existing Common Service Centres (CSC).

The state government is reviving the CSC’s in the rural areas and many citizen services will be available online. Therefore, it is very important that the citizens of the state should have simple Digital knowledge. This course will empower individual citizen in the rural areas to make full use of the Government Services that is available online and to break the existing digital gap.

The course contents will cover Computer Basics, Course Topics, The Internet and the World Wide Web, Digital Lifestyles and others. The Government is investing Rs 2780/- per citizen in this program and the government encourages the citizens of the state to take full advantage of the program. NOTIFICATION

Shillong, August 2, 2012: The Government of Meghalaya has upgraded the Khliehriat Civil Sub-Division of Jaintia Hills into a District to be named as East Jaintia Hills District with its headquarter at Khliehriat. This was informed by the Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya.

The newly created District shall comprise of all the villages of the two Community & Rural Development Blocks viz., Saipung C & RD Block and Khliehriat C & RD Block. The District will be bounded by West Jaintia Hills District and Assam from the North, Bangladesh and Assam from the South, Assam from the East and West Jaintia Hills District from the West.

Consequent upon the upgradation of Khliehriat (Civil) Sub-Division to the new District, the Government of Meghalaya has renamed the existing Jaintia Hills District as ‘West Jaintia Hills District’ with headquarters at Jowai so as to avoid any confusion as the term ‘Jaintia Hills’ refers to the entire region and not just a part of it.
