LAUNCH OF MEGHA FIT SCHEME IN MEGHALAYA

Taking a step towards a healthier future, Meghalaya, launches the Megha Fit Scheme Aligned with the visionary Sports Policy of Meghalaya, 2019, which seeks to foster a vibrant and culturally enriched state, this initiative is set to be launched on the prestigious occasion of National Sports Day 2023.

The Megha Fit Scheme emerges as a robust response to the need for a health conscious community, aligning seamlessly with the overarching goals of the Fit India Movement launched in 2019 by the Honourable Prime Minister of India. As Meghalayas youth constitutes a substantial 74 percent of the population under the age of 35, the significance of introducing fitness and well being activities becomes paramount for a promising future.

The objective of the scheme is to cultivate a culture of healthy living, empower the public to embrace health conscious lifestyles, enhance cross departmental coordination to make fitness more accessible, and foster positivity and productivity among the citizens of Meghalaya. Moreover, the scheme draws from the national vision of the Fit India Movement and aspires to establish Meghalaya as a hub of fitness and well being.

Designed with meticulous attention to detail, the Megha Fit Scheme will focus on the youth of Meghalaya. The scheme encompasses a wide range of activities, from hosting awareness programs, conducting surveys, and formulating school based programs. Each activity will cater to distinct aspects of physical fitness including nutrition and exercise.

To ensure the smooth execution of these initiatives, the department will collaborate with various stakeholders in the State and encourage community driven initiatives.

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND VETERINARY MINISTER INAUGURATES MILK PARLOR, WORKERS AMENITY BLOCK AT TURA

On his maiden visit to Garo Hills as Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister, A L Hek, had a wide ranging discussions on various issues as well as achievements of various farms and institutions of the department with the concerned officers. 

The officers also highlighted the constraints and challenges faced in different farms located in Garo Hills region. As a part of this visit, he also inspected various government Farms as well as other institutions under the department. The Minister in presence of Secretary, AH and Veterinary Department, Dr C Manjunathan, IFS, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner J Chelani, IAS, Rongram BDO, T N Sangma, MCS, Director, AH and V, Dr R Ch Momin, AHP, Garo Hills, Dr H K Marak, JD, Assistant Director, Dairy, W Ch Marak and the officers of the A.H. and Veterinary Department, handed over keys of two motorcycles sanctioned under Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) meant for the 1st Batch of MAITRIs (Private AI Worker) in order to enable them to provide timely Artificial Insemination (AI) services at the farmers doorstep.

The A L Hek also inaugurated Milk Parlor funded under Meghalaya Milk Mission and National Programme for Dairy Development at New Dairy Complex, Ganol and Workers Amenity Block funded under National Programme for Dairy Development, West Garo Hills at the same venue.

NATIONAL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATED IN MEGHALAYA

The dynamic state of Meghalaya came alive with the fervour of athleticism and sportsmanship during the exultant celebration of National Sports Day. From August 22nd to August 29th , an entire week was dedicated to honouring the spirit of sports through a series of exhilarating events, solidifying Meghalayas commitment to fostering sports and fitness across its populace.

National Sports Day, celebrated on the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, is a tribute to his remarkable contributions to Indian sports. This years celebration in Meghalaya was a true testament to the states dedication to nurturing and encouraging sporting talent.

The week long celebration reached its pinnacle on August 29th, a day marked by an array of events that showcased the states enthusiasm for sports and fitness. The day kicked off with a vibrant procession of fitness enthusiasts, mainly government employees, who embarked on a walk to work, symbolizing the importance of an active lifestyle. The JN Stadium tennis court buzzed with excitement as athletes from various disciplines congregated to receive cash awards in recognition of their outstanding performances. 209 Athletes and Coaches were given a cash award of About 84 Lakhs for both Olympic and non Olympic sports. Shri Shakliar Warjri, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, graced the occasion as the chief guest. His presence further amplified the events emphasis on unity, discipline, and healthy living through sports. The celebration began with an opening address by Smt Isawanda Laloo, IAS, Director Sports and Youth Affairs and concluded with an exhilarating Exhibition Football Match between Officers FC and MLA FC at the MFA Turf, Polo Ground, Shillong.

Esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Ampareen M Lyngdoh, Minister of Health and Agriculture, Honourable MLA and Shri Methodius Dkhar added to the grandeur of the event. A remarkable highlight was the launch of the Meghafit program, a flagship initiative aimed at making fitness and health accessible and appealing to the citizens of the state, thereby fostering overall well being.

Throughout the week, a diverse array of sports competitions captivated participants of all ages and skill levels. From the invigorating 5K Fitness Run to riveting football matches, the event showcased a spectrum of talent and determination. Events like badminton, table tennis, futsal, basketball, cricket, athletics, archery, carrom, and more encapsulated the true essence of sportsmanship. The jubilation of National Sports Day resonated as participants and spectators united in the spirit of sportsmanship. Triumphs were celebrated, and champions of various competitions were duly recognized for their unyielding dedication and perseverance.

An award ceremony was meticulously organized to honor government departments for their enthusiastic participation, showcasing their commitment to the events success. The resounding success of the National Sports Day festivities in Meghalaya stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of sports organizations, educational institutions, volunteers, and the enthusiastic engagement of individuals and communities. The event seamlessly mirrored the states steadfast resolve to cultivate a culture of sports and physical well being.

As the sun set on a day marked by camaraderie, competition, and jubilation, Meghalaya reiterated its commitment to leveraging sports as a means of holistic development and societal harmony.
