REGIONAL CHESS MEET 2017 CONCLUDES

The 3 day Regional Chess meet 2017 organised by the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Niangbari, Ri Bhoi District came to an end yesterday at the JNV premises, Niangbari where in the Deputy Commissioner Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh, Shri. C.P.Gotmare, graced the closing ceremony as a Chief Guest. In all, 314 students from 51 schools of the JNVs N.E. Region participated in the meet. Addressing the gathering the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the participants particularly the winners of the meet and lauded the efforts made by the school management in organizing the programme which is a platform for the young students to showcase their talents in the field of sports, to know each other, interact and share their ideas and to bring unity and togetherness among the student community. Shri. Gotmare expressed his happiness over the huge response of the students who participated in the competition and urged the organizers that such meets be time and again held to give students a chance to display their talent. Smti. K.Sagarika, Principal JNV, Niangbari in her speech thanked the participants, teachers and particularly the judges for their participation in the successful conduct of the meet involving 314 students and 60 teachers.

BRIDGE AND LINK ROAD INAUGURATED

Meghalaya Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Smti. Roshan Warjri, today inaugurated the Jaiaw Umpohliew Bridge and Link Road to Mawlai Phudmuri in the presence of the local MDC, Shri. Adelbert Nongrum, Chief Engineer, PWD Roads (NH), Shri. M R Sangma, PWD officials, Headman of Mawlai Phudmuri, Shri. S Kurbah, Headman of Jaiaw Laitdom, Shri. S B Kharbangar and the residents of the area. The inauguration ceremony was held at Pearly Dew School, Jaiaw, Shillong. The Bridge was sanctioned from the Special Plan Assistance Scheme of the Central Government at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crores while the link road was sanctioned from the Special Plan Fund at a cost of Rs. 58.95 lakhs. Dedicating the project to the people, Smti. Warjri said that the long cherished dream of the people of Jaiaw Laitdom have been realised with the inauguration of the bridge and link road. While thanking the residents for their cooperation, she said that their cooperation in the construction process has ensured its completion in a stipulated time. She hoped that this road will ease the traffic congestion in the city and serve its purpose for the benefit of the residents and urged upon the people to make sure that anti social elements do not make this facility a safe haven for unlawful activities.
