LIST OF BPL FAMILIES LIST RELEASED

The draft list of the BPL families has been finalized as prepared by the Community and Rural Development Department (C & R D) and is available in the office of the BDOs, CDPOs, Deputy Commissioners and other village level officers. All eligible BPL family members are requested to inspect the list and file claims. In case their names are not in the list, objections can also be filed against non-eligible BPL families included in the draft list.

PASSING OUT CEREMONY OF CTI TRAINEE HELD

The passing out ceremony of the 33rd Batch 2005-2006 of Field Assistant Training Course and 6th Batch of Advanced Training of Forester Course of the Soil and Water Conservation Training Institute (CTI) was held today the 15th September, 2006 at CTI, Byrnihat. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Meghalaya Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Mr. M.N .Mukhim. There were 16 trainees for the Field Assistant Course and 10 trainees for the Forester Course who successfully completed their training.

In his address, Mr. Mukhim urged the successful trainee to utilize their knowledge and skill they received from the institute in the best possible way in their respective field that they work. Saying that as field workers, while on duty or during the implementation of various government schemes, people are all eye on them, therefore he exhorted them to maintain discipline and to be dedicated to their work with utter sincerity. He said that the Institute is doing an exemplary job by bringing out skilled workers from time to time. Conservation of soil, water and vegetation is the need of time which would benefit human beings socially and economically, he added.

The Chief Guest later handed over the prizes and certificates to the successful trainee.

Mr. K. C. Momin, Director of Soil and Water Conservation, speaking as the Guest of Honour on the occasion said that field workers of any department need skill, knowledge and aptitude and the institute equips the trainee with these qualities. He added that just passing out or completing the course does not serve the purpose but the real challenge lies when the trainee could now put their know-how in a practical way when they go to their respective works.

The Department of Soil and Water Conservation has also instituted an award- P .S. Ingty Memorial Award- for trainee with excellence. Late P. S Ingty was the former Director of Soil and Water Conservation who had contributed much to the Department during his tenure as the Director.

The Award was bagged by Mr. Hamilton Lapang for his excellence during the training programme.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY HELD AT JOWAI

The National Science Day and the first Science LCD Quiz projection was held at the District Library Auditorium, Jowai on September 13, 2006. The National Science day was organized by the District Planning Officer, Jaintia Hills, Jowai. The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills, Mr. F R Kharkongor grace the occasion as the chief guest.

In his speech, Mr. Kharkongor lauded the efforts of the organizers, participants and resource persons for their enormous contributions towards making the day a grand success. He expressed hope that the National Science Day will help the students to exposed and display their talents in the field of science and to imbibe in them scientific mind for the overall benefit of the students at large.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Mr. W Lyngdoh, Inspector of School, Mr. M S Lhuid, District Planning Officer and Mr. K Hynniewta, Research Officer, Planning Department.

Later, the chief guest handed over the trophy and mementoes to the winners of various competitions.

JAINTIA TOURISM AND ENVIRONMENT SOCIETY LAUNCHED

The Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills, Jowai, Mr. F R Kharkongor has launched the Jaintia Tourism and Environment Society (JTES) at the Deputy Commissioner conference room on September 14, 2006. The function was presided over by Mr. M. Lhuid, president of the Society.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr. Kharkongor lauded the effort of the Society in promoting tourism in the District. He also said that the District Administration is trying its level best to provide all kind of support to the Society as well as help it to obtain financial assistance from the State and the Central Government, adding that the five tourists’ spot has been beautified and made accessible to the tourist. He also informed that Tourism Week will be celebrated in the District from October 9 to October 14, 2006.
