CHIEF MINISTER MEETS VARIOUS NGOS TO DISCUSS LOKAYUKTA

Shillong, 2nd Sept 15: The Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma today met a delegation of various NGOs of the state to discuss the implementation of Lokayukta Bill in the state.

The Chief Minister later informed that the state has come up with a much more effective Lokayukta Bill which was considered by the House and the Selection Committee for Lokayukta has been constituted. He also informed that the rules that would govern as to how the government employees will have to submit their returns and assets declaration are in the final stage. He also informed that the Government has decided that the Personnel & A.R department would be tasked to receive the Returns and Assets Declaration and added that once the rules to this effect are completed it will be brought for the consideration of the cabinet.

He further said that while this initiative would go a long way in ensuring transparency in governance and amongst people associated with governance, the government needs to look at a very vibrant and effective mechanism that can take cognizance of deficiencies in the implementation of various developmental programmes for the interest of the people and the state and have a system that will take care of these deficiencies on a concurrent basis so that there is no space for irregularities at the time of actual implementation of these programmes. This is one important legislative initiative of the government he informed.

Earlier the Chief Minister also had a review meeting with State Level Steering Committee on International Terra Madre-Mei Ramew to be held in November this year in the state. The global event is designed to project the state as the ultimate destination, leveraging upon the rich traditions and cultural heritage.
