Press Release No. 709/06 SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD AT SOHRA A two-day Special Interactive Programme on “Capacity Building to combat Natural Calamities” was organized by the office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer (SDPRO) at Sohra on September 20, 2006. Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, the Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Sohra Sub-Division, Mr. B .S. Sohliya lauded the office of the SDPRO for organizing a meaningful programme which would equip the people with the knowledge to combat unpredicted natural disaster. Pointing out two types of calamities namely, natural calamities and manmade calamities, he said that it was high time for people to understand the destruction made by man to Nature. The resource persons included the BDO, Shella Bholaganj Block, Dr. P.D. Chyne in-charge Sub Divisional Medical & Health Officer, Mr. P. Tariang, Principal, D.I.E.T. and Mr. A. Marbaniang, Range Forest Officer, Social Forestry. The welcome address was offered by Mrs. A. Rynjah, SDPRO and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. R. Lyngdoh, LDA, office of the SDPRO. |
Press Release No. 710/06 YOUTH FEST NONGSTOIN CONCLUDES The Nongstoin Youth Fest 2006 concluded with a closing ceremony on September 21, 2006 in the St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School Auditorium, Pyndengrei. A big crowd consisting of student participants and government officials witnessed the colourful programme organized by the District Administration, West Khasi Hills District. The theme of the festival was “Youth –Builder of Society” under the supervision of Magdalene Sunnah and Fr. Anthony as Coordinator Youth Fest 2006. Mr. H.S. Lyngdoh, local MLA graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address Mr. Lyngdoh lauded the organizing committee and the District Administration for their effort and also extended his best wishes to the participants. He expressed his deep appreciation on the theme of the Fest as it is most relevant in the present age of competition, misunderstanding and differences. He called upon the youth to build a better society for their better future. Mr. Lyngdoh laid stressed upon what ever they have learned from this meaningful get together should become a beacon in their path of life. He wished that the participants would become true leaders in their fields of activities. “Doing the right thing at the right time and sorting out right time and sorting out right from wrong” was Mr. Lyngdoh’s message to the youth. The other highlight of the function included cultural programme from different groups and participants. The function was presided over by Mrs.S.Diengdoh, Inspector of School, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin. |
Press Release No. 711/06 SPECIAL INTERACTIVE PROGRAMME HELD AT AMLAREM A day long Special Interactive Programme on “Food, Health and People” was organized at Amlarem by the office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, (SDPRO) Amlarem on September 20, 2006. Experts from the Departments of Fisheries, Veterinary and Health took part in the programme as resource persons. Mr.R.Muksor, SDPRO chaired the function and also gave his speech on the Right to Information Act. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Mr.R.L.Tariang. In his speech Mr.Tariang expressed his pleasure to be associated with such an important programme and said that the programme will help the people know the various aspects health and nutrition. He called upon the teachers to impress upon students about the importance of Health Education and a hygienic living. He also said that in order to promote transparency the government has empowered the people with Right to Information Act. Others who spoke on the occasion were Sub Divisional Officer(Civil), Amlarem Sub Division, Mrs.V.Phawa, Dr.J.Gashnga, Sub Divisional Health & Medical Officer, Mrs.S.Cahllam, Fishery Officer and Dr.B.Plain, Sub Divisional Veterinary Officer. There was also a prize distribution for students who took part in the essay and drawing competition as part of the SIP programme. |
