PAUL LYNGDOH INSPECTS SWEEPERS' QUARTERS

Meghalaya Minister for Urban Affairs. Mr. Paul Lyngdoh today made a spot inspection of the Sweepers’ Quarters at Bivar Road, Shillong. He was accompanied by senior officials of the Urban Affairs Department, Meghalaya Urban Development Agency (MUDA) and Shillong Municipal Board (SMB).

During the inspection, Mr. Lyngdoh informed that the complex was completed two years ago, adding that the quarters are now in a deteriorating conditions as it was left unoccupied since its completion. He further stated that the shifting of all the authorized SMB staff to the complex is under process and only genuine sweepers of the Sweepers’ colony will be shifted immediately to the complex. He further informed that according to the survey conducted by the MUDA in 1990, altogether there are 200 families living in the sweepers’ colony at Mawlonghat, Shillong.

It may be mentioned that the complex have altogether 84 units constructed at the by the National Building Construction Company (NBCC) and MUDA.

DEPUTY COMMISSIONER MEETS RANGBAH SHNONG

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh recently met the Rangbah Shnongs of villages from Umiam up to Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi District in the presence of Mr. W L Mynsong, Deputy CEM, KHADC, Mr. C B Syiem, EM, KHADC and local NGOs at his office chamber to chalk out matters relating to parking and over loading of vehicles along the National Highway and others roads in the District. The Deputy Commissioner in this regard has instructed the Police to do the needful in order to avoid accidents and inconvenience to other vehicles. He further informed that the Mobile court would also continue and any vehicle owner/driver found guilty would be dealt with sternly.

With regard to pollution of rivers due to washing of vehicles, dumping of garbage and other wastes, he informed that anyone interested d to set up vehicles serving centres, workshops, farms etc by the roadside should get a No Objection Certificate from the PWD and the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Broad.

HINDI PAKHAWARA CELEBRATION

To celebrate Hindi Pakhawara, the North Eastern Regional Institute of Education (NERIE) is organizing a two day activities from 27th-28th September 2006 for school children, school teachers, Central government employees and NERIE staff. The activities include Hindi poem recitation, extempore speech, debate on the theme “India should not send athletes to the Olympics”, essay writing on “Unity in Diversity” and a seminar on “Promotion of multilingualism and multiculturalism”.

All the activities will be held at the Conference Hall, NERIE, Nongrim Hills opposite D.G.Assam Rifles Residence). The programme will begin at 9:30 am.
