CM INAUGURATES SEVERAL DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS FOR 18 WEST SHILLONG CONSTITUENCY

Meghalaya has been ranked as one of the top performing States in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, JJM. This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today during his address at a function to inaugurate several developmental projects for 18 West Shillong Constituency, at the premises of Hindu Mission, Lower Mawprem.

All of you will be happy to know that on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti the President of India will confer the award for one of the best performing states in the implementation of JJM, to our State, the Chief Minister said. During his address the Chief Minister also informed that the State has been conferred with several awards recently for its performance in different areas ranging from healthcare to tourism. We are working with a vision to make Meghalaya one of the top 10 States in the next 10 years and with the right initiatives and policy interventions the State has made rapid strides in many of the developmental indices, he added.

During the function the Chief Minister along with the local MLA, Mohendro Rapsang and other dignitaries inaugurated the mortuary van of the Hindu Mission as well as the LED Street Lights and CCTV installations in the area. The projects are funded under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund. During his visit the Chief Minister also interacted with the children of the orphanage run by the Meghalaya Hindu Mission.

YUVA UTSAV HELD AT TURA

The District Level Youth Festival Yuva Utsav 2022 was organized as part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at District Auditorium, Tura on 29th September, 2022. The programme was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Tura with the Theme Sense of Duty among the Citizens. Various competitions were conducted during the daylong program including Young Artist Painting Competition, Young Writers Poem Contest, Mobile photography contest, Declamation competition and Cultural Competition.

Addressing the gathering comprising of youth along with their parents and teachers, the Chief Guest on the occasion Billykid A Sangma, Former MLA encouraged the youth to be dutiful and respect each other in all walks of life. Further, he also stressed on the importance of time and its management and advised them to be on time for everything and be a responsible person in the society. He also urged the youth to be proud of the rich culture and heritage of our forefathers and preserve these traditions for future generations. Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the Yuva Utsav 2022, Extra Assistant Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura Ruby Balkame Sangma also emphasized on investment of time and its role in shaping the life of the youth and encouraged them to hone their skills when still young.

Youth Icon and Mr. Meghalaya 2021 and 2022 Atlanta D Shira have immensely encouraged the youth by his presence during the function and shared his experience of life as body builder, his daily food habits and also mentioned about how to keep a person fit and healthy always. Stating that only hard work and persistence have helped him achieved success despite many challenges he informed that at present he is preparing to represent the State for Mr. India title in November, 2022.

Stating that the National Education Policy 2020 is laying stress on Vocational Education Dr. Barbara S Sangma, Head of the Department of English, Don Bosco College, Tura said that India is trying to equip the youth with employable skills and therefore, colleges and universities are required to offer certificate courses on various skills so that they can look forward for skill oriented jobs worldwide. She further said that skill development and academic certificates have to go hand in hand in the present context and added that learning more skills is always better with more job opportunities in future. She also mentioned about the initiatives of the Government for skilling the youth of India for different industry related jobs and added that schemes and training courses such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana assisted by National Skill Development Corporation also focuses on courses of office management, marketing, carpentry, fashion designing and many more. She also informed about the importance of both hard and soft skills and how it would benefit the students in future career prospects.
