MOBILE ART EXHIBITION AT NONGPOH

Shillong, September 3, 2010: The Department of Art & Culture, Meghalaya in collaboration with the North East Zone Culture Centre, Dimapur (NEZCC), Dimapur, Nagaland organized a two day Mobile Art Exhibition at Science Hall, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District on September 2-3, 2010. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. Akash Deep Singh in presence of the Director, Art & Culture, Mrs. D Syiem, Assistant Director, Art & Culture, Mrs. R Wankhar, ADC, Ri Bhoi, Mrs. I Mawlong and others.

In his inauguration address, Mr. Singh lauded the Department of Art & Culture for their untiring effort in organizing the programme to create awareness on art and culture through exhibition and also to highlight the richness of talent and skill of the artists and artisans from the State of Meghalaya and other North Eastern States. He expressed hoped that the exhibition will provide a platform for young talents and art lovers to showcase their potential at the highest level.

Paintings, sculptures and crafts of different artists and artisans from the State and other North Eastern States were also displayed during the two day long Exhibition.

WEST KHASI HILLS DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION CONVENES MEETING TO DISCUSS ROAD NETWORK SYSTEM

Shillong, September 3, 2010: The District Administration West Khasi Hills District recently convened a meeting with all the stakeholders and the users which included the representatives of the transporters, wholesalers and traders to discuss the present road conditions in the District and to chalk out measures for improvement of roads in the District. The meeting lamented that the overall road condition in the District is comparatively worse and this has inconvenienced the general public, the business community and the transport operator alike. The members who attended the meeting was of the view that the present road condition is due to the plying of overloaded trucks and decided to call upon the transport operators and business community to cooperate with the authority in taking measures to mitigate the situation.

After the threadbare discussion, the Deputy Commissioner called upon all stakeholders to work together with the District Administration to improve the situation and particularly he appealed the business community to work together with the District Administration in taking measures to contain further deterioration of the road network system in the District for the common convenience and interest of the public.

The meeting has taken the decision that that the limit of loading in trucks and other vehicles will be strictly as per the orders passed by the Supreme Court of India and truck owners and operators shall reduce the body height of the truck so as to ensure that the order of the Supreme Court is not violated. Truckers entering the District will voluntarily reduce the body height of their trucks within a period of two weeks. It has also been decided that checking on the compliance on reducing the body height of the truck by the truckers/transport operators entering the District will be done by the police from all the entry points from Mairang, Aradonga, Nongchram and other entry points as may be decided by the Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills District. The checking will take effect from 13th September, 2010. High body trucks will be barred from entering the District from 15th September, 2010.
