SPECIAL WORKSHOP FOR REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner (EL), West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has informed that Special Workshop to discuss on the procedures with regard to special revision of electoral roll to be started from 1st October 2012 will be held at TRYSEM Hall, DC’s Office, Nongstoin on 28th September 2012 at 11 AM.

All Sordars, Headmen and members of the NGOs and Civil Societies within the Nongstoin Township are requested to participate in the workshop.

ENROLMENT FOR TERRITORIAL ARMY

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The Territorial Army 121 INF BN (TA) GARF RIH will conduct a recruitment rally on 20th September 2012 to 22nd September 2012 for enrolment of new recruits hailing from West Bengal and North East States during at 0600 hrs at Adra (Purulia) West Bengal location of 1032 Railway Engineer Regiment (TA).

Total Number of vacancies for Soldier GD is 25, for Chef Mess is 01, for Chef Community is 01 and Washerman is 01. Interested male candidates between 18-42 years can apply. Candidates should be physically fit and will have to undergo a medical examination prior to the enrolment.

Minimum educational qualification for Soldier GD is Class X pass with 45 percent aggregate marks and class VII pass to candidates living in North Eastern States and who are entitled to Dispensation. Qualification for Chef Mess, Chef Community and Washer man is class X pass and class VIII pass to persons from North Eastern States and who are entitled to Dispensation.

Candidates are required to bring Education Certificate including board certificates in original, Domicile certificate in original, latest character certificate, passport size photograph (06 copies), ration card or voter identity card and no objection certificate from civil employer if employed.

FINAL LIST OF POLLING STATIONS

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills District has informed that in connection with the General Election to the Legislative Assembly, 2013, the final list of Polling Stations with respect to 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST) Assembly Constituency within the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency has been published in accordance with section 25 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The name of the Polling Station and building in which the polling station is located can be inspected at the office of the District Election Officer, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin.

GOVT. NOTIFIED COMMITTEE ON INFLUX

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The Government of Meghalaya in a notification issued today has notified the constitution of a High Level Committee on influx with Shri Bindo M Lanong, Deputy Chief Minister i/c Law as the Chairman. Other members include Shri P. Tynsong, Minister i/c Forest etc., Shri H D R Lyngdoh, Minister i/c Home (Police) and DCA, Prof R C Laloo, Minister i/c Revenue, Smti Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister i/c Urban Affairs, Chief Executive Member, KHADC, JHADC, GHADC, three members of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, one representatives each from among the Nokmas, Syiems and Dollois, three prominent and distinguished members from civil society and three representatives from the NGOs like KSU, JSU, GSU, FKJGP, JYF, AJWO, RBYF, CSWO, KWWADA, and SSSS.

The terms of this High Level Committee are to review the situation of influx in the State and suggest a multi-pronged strategy and approach to deal with the issue, to examine and outline the role of traditional institutions and their empowerment in dealing with the problem of influx, to recommend a comprehensive institutionalized mechanism and any other matter incidental thereto as considered necessary by the committee.

Further, the Offficial Committee on influx was also constituted with the Chief Secretary as the Chairman. Other members of this committee are Principal Secretary, Home (Police) Deptt., Principal Secretary, Urban Affairs Deptt., Commissioner & Secretary, Revenue Deptt., Commissioner & Secretary, DCA Department, Secretary, Law Department, Director General of Police, Meghalaya, Secretary, KHADC, JHADC and GHADC.

The terms of this committee are to review and examine the relevant laws and practices relating to tenancy and their impact on influx, to suggest specific measures to regulate tenancy practices in the State in order to check illegal infiltration and influx into the state and any other matter incidental thereto as considered necessary by the Committee.

ASSISTANCE TO VAS NGOS SHGS

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The District Planning Officer, West Jaintia Hills District invites proposal from Voluntary Agencies (VAs)/ Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs)/ SHGs for consideration of providing financial assistance from the Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) of Planning Department, Government of Meghalaya during 2011-2012.

Assistance under this Scheme shall include short term training and short term seminars/workshops. Financial Assistance to be sanctioned to the individuals VAs/NGOs/SHGs will depend on the merit and nature of the Scheme.

The formats/application forms for submission of proposals can be obtained from the office of the District Planning Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai.

Interested VAs/NGOs/ SHGs are to submit their proposals along with the details of the scheme and relevant documents, to the office of the District Planning Officer, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai on or before 20th September, 2012.

RICE, LEVY SUGAR AND S.K OIL DISTRIBUTED

Shillong, September 5, 2012 : The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) West Jaintia Hills District has informed that the monthly Quota of APL, BPL, AAY & Additional quota of APL Rice, Levy Sugar and S.K Oil for the month of August, 2012 are being distributed to the consumers as per scale and rate through their respective fair price shops.

APL Quota of rice will be distributed at the scale of 15.130Kgs per F.I card for both Rural and Urban areas. Selling rate for urban is Rs. 9.70 per kg. While in rural areas the selling rate is fixed for their respective centre. Additional APL quota of rice will be distributed at the scale of 8.995 kgs per APL family at the rate of 9.70 per Kg in urban areas while for the rural areas the rate is fixed at their respective centre, BPL Quota at the scale of 35 Kgs per card at the rate of 6.15 per Kg for both rural and town areas, AAY quota at the scale of 35 Kgs per card and at the rate of Rs. 3.00 per Kg for both rural and town areas.

Levy Sugar will be distributed at the scale of 600grams per head for both urban and rural areas at the rate of 14.21 per Kg for urban areas while in rural areas the rate is fixed for their respective centre. S.K Oil will be distributed at the scale of 6.5 litres per card in town area at the rate of Rs. 16.41 per litres and in rural areas at the scale of 3.5 litres per family per month at the rate fixed for their respective centres/villages.

JOWAI CELEBRATES TEACHERS DAY

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The 51st Teachers Day was today observed in the District Headquarter in the District Library Auditorium, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District in which Principals, Head Teachers of Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary, teachers and students participated. The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, Mr. P.S Dkhar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Present among others were the District Education Officer, J.S Lyngdoh and Rtd. District Education Officer C. Slong.

Mr. Dkhar, in his speech, congratulated the State awardee Cruzy Hajong, Vice Principal, Sohkha Government Higher Secondary School, Sohkha and District awardees- Leoka Rymbai, Vice Principal Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Camble Shadap, Headmistress, Mookaiaw Government Upper Primary School and Hunlang Jungai, Head Teacher, Government Lower Primary School, Jarian and the teachers of the District for their selfless service inspite of the ups and downs faced during the course of teaching.

The DC urged the teachers to work selflessly as the society always looks at the teacher as someone who can guide and groom their children in a right direction. He said, ‘as teachers we are to look beyond the four walls and boundaries to see that our students hold the moral values and attitude even out of school’, and appeal to the teachers to take the responsibility to see that the youths and students grow as responsible citizens of the State and the country. Being responsible is to take on the challenges of the changing world and to upgrade their knowledge and methodology in order to enhance the quality of teaching, said P.S Dkhar

LOK ADALAT TO BE HELD

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District in collaboration with the State Legal Service Authority (MSLSA) will organize “ Lok Adalat” ( People’s Court) at Ri Bhoi Presbyterian Secondary School, Nongpoh on 8th September, 2012 from 10.00 AM onwards. The objective of the Adalat is to dispose off long pending cases and provide immediate relief to all litigants in a manner mutually acceptable to them. DR LAPANG HAND OVER WORK ORDER

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya and local MLA, Dr. D.D Lapang today handover a work order of Rs. 4.00 lakhs to the President of the Managing Committee of Pahamrioh Them L.P. School, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh in a formal gathering held at Pahamrioh Them Dorbar Hall.

Speaking at the gathering Dr. Lapang congratulated Dr. C. Lyngdoh MDC for his ceaseless effort to uproot illiteracy and backwardness in the area. Dr. Lapang informed the gathering that Dr. Lyngdoh drew the scheme for the extension of school building from the 13th Finance Commission 2011-2012 in order to give more space to children to study in the school. Dr. Lapang also urged the Managing Committee to fully utilize the fund for the purpose and also hope that children in this area will receive proper and quality education.

PERMANENT OFFICE OF THE EE PHE INAUGURATED

Shillong, September 5, 2012: The Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya and local MLA, Dr. D.D Lapang inaugurated the permanent office of the Executive Engineer PHE, Umsning Division in the presence of Dr. C Lyngdoh, MDC, Nongpoh, Mr. F. Lyngdoh Chairman KHADC, Mr. O. Pamshong, MDC Mawhati, Mr. A.Deep Deputy Commissioner Ri Bhoi District The construction cost of the office is Rs. 82.97 lakhs.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lapang expressed pleasure that the long dream of the department has been realized. He also said that since the office of the Executive Engineer was established in the year 2006, the struggle was to have a separate and permanent building where the department can speed up developmental activities to various villages in the area.

Dr. Lapang also lauded and congratulated the department for taking great initiative in providing drinking water to the populace of the area. He also called upon the department to march ahead with their objectives in order to uplift the living condition of the people. Dr.Lapang on the other hand called upon the Rangbah Shnong of the different village together with the department to maintain and protect water sources as well as catchment areas to avoid water problem and water scarcity in future. He also hoped that the department could cater and accelerate its services to meet the needs and demands of the general public.

Mr. D. Khymdeit, MLA in his speech, said that with the inauguration of the office building will benefit the people under the Division to a large extent and called upon the officials to render and dedicate their service for the betterment of the society as a whole. He also hope that in coming years the department would be able to provide water supply connection to all the villages.

SELLING OF INTOXICATING SUBSTANCES PROHIBITED TO CHILDREN BELOW 18 YEARS

Shillong, September 5, 2012: Due to the rise of substance abuse amongst children within the East Khasi Hills District, the District Child Protection Committee under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner has directed all shop keepers within the District that selling of dendrite, white ink eraser and other intoxicating substances to children below the age of 18 years is strictly prohibited and punishable by law.

All shopkeepers are therefore directed to comply and adhere with the direction.

TEACHERS DAY OBSERVED AT NONGPOH

Shillong, September 5, 2012: Together with the rest of the country Teacher’s Day celebration was also observed at St Paul Parish Hall Nongpoh with Shri. A. Deep, Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District as the Chief guest and Shri. L. Pyngrope, Joint Director as Guest of Honour in presence of teachers and students of the District. The celebration was observed with great enthusiasm with student presenting various colourful programmes

On this occasion three teachers namely Shri Brightsterfield Khongwir, Assistant Teacher, MeECL Secondary School Kyrdemkulai, Shri Elias Mallai, Head Teacher, St. Joseph’s Upper Primary School Umdem and Smt. Matilda Mallai, Head Teacher, Bleishah Government L.P School were awarded with the District Academic Awards presented by the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner lauded the teaching community for rendering selfless services to mould and inculcate good and great values to student. He also said that teachers inspite of their low income yet they left no stone unturned to cater quality education to student

Mr. Deep also said that teachers are true achiever who inspired student with new thought and not only confined them self only to the curriculum. He also stress that it is high time that teachers required training to a minimum level for further teaching. He call upon that teachers must have the capability to maintain uniformity, values understanding and to create the atmosphere of oneness and honesty.

Mr. L. Pyngrope, Joint Director while speaking as the guest of honour said that teaching is a very respectful profession and hence urged that teachers must possess the quality of responsibility, trust worthy, the interest in teaching and genuine understanding. He also said that teachers should not take teaching as mere rain shelter but to devote themselves in bringing up bright future and good citizens in the society. He also opined that teachers are like candles who give light to the whole society.
