ELECTORS VERIFICATION PROGRAMME (EVP) AND HOUSE TO HOUSE VERIFICATION BY BLOS

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), East Khasi Hills District, has informed that as part of the pre-revision activities of the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls w.r.t 1.1.2020 as qualifying date, a programme called Electors Verification Programme (EVP) has been launched. The aim of the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) is to improve the health of Electoral Rolls and enrolment of all eligible citizens during Special Summary Revision, 2020. The EVP will also ensure that all the details of the electors or their Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are without any error. Under the EVP, voters can verify or authenticate their details by logging on to NVSP portal (nvsp.in) or Voter Helpline Mobile App or Common Service Centres or by visiting any nearby voter facilitation centre. The period of EVP is from 1st September, 2019 to 15th October, 2019. The Booth Level Officers will be visiting each and every household from 1. 9.2019 to 30.9.2019 for House to House verification of the details of the existing electors, to verify the information/details collected from citizen through crowd sourcing as well as verification of the same and to collect information/details of un-enrolled/dead/shifted electors.

58TH STATE LEVEL TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATED

In recognition of the contribution of teachers towards shaping the future of the nation, the State Government today celebrated the 58th State Level Teachers’ Day in a function held at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. Shri. L Rymbui, Education Minister, Government of Meghalaya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering comprising of teachers and students, Shri. L Rymbui stressed on the importance of teachers’ training. Pointing out that in today’s scenario teachers have to continuously adapt themselves to changing times, he informed that under the ABD programme, 3500 teachers have been imparted with training. He also stated that soon the State Government will implement the Nishtha scheme, launched by the Government of India in August 2019, with the aim of training 42 lac teachers across the country. Endeavouring to make learning an active process, a Task Force has been formed to study the current curriculum and bring out necessary changes where needed, he informed. Shri. L Rymbui also said that despite the many constraints faced by the Government, the commitment remains to fulfill the many aspiration of different sections across the State and thus called on all stakeholders in the field of education to synchronise their minds to improve the educational system in the State.

In his keynote address, Shri. D P Wahlang, Principal Secretary, Education Department while congratulating the winners of the National, State and District Teachers Award, said that in order for the students to move ahead in life, teachers have to be involved in the process of transformation, a fact reiterated in the theme of this year’s celebration “A good education can change anyone, a good teacher can teach everything”. Informing that in the past one year, under the Meghalaya School Improvement Plan, many Schools across the State have been able to transform themselves for the betterment of the students, this year for the first time 6 schools have been awarded for their initiatives under the scheme. Stating that the role of teachers is not only to impart knowledge but also to inspire change, teachers also have to learn and adopt technology in the teaching process, he said. ¬¬

Altogether 12 teachers were felicitation with the State Award for the year 2019 and 4 with the District Award for East Khasi Hills District. Awards were also given for the best Scoutmaster and Best Scout Captain. Certificate of Recognition were awarded to 6 schools under the Meghalaya School Improvement Plan Award. Besides other speakers, two of the Awardees, Smti. Prenitha R Marak, Assistant Teacher, St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Tura and Smti. Annette Phira, Principal Synod Higher Secondary School, Shillong shared experiences of their journey as teachers. A message by the Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi was also read out on the occasion. The programme ended with a variety programme.
