CELEBRATION OF THE 50TH TEACHERS DAY WAS OBSERVED IN THE STATE

Shillong, 5th September, 2011: As part of the National wide celebration, Meghalaya too celebrated the 50th Teachers Day today in different parts of the state. In Shillong, the celebration was obnserved at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong in which teachers, Principal, students from various school including colleges participate. Dr. R. C. Laloo, Education Minister, Government of Meghalaya graced the occasion as the Chief Guest other dignitaries include Shri P. S Thangkhiew, IAS, Principal Secretary, Education Department, Meghalaya, Shri. J. D. Sangma, Director School Education and Literacy, Meghalaya, Shri. W. Lyngdoh, Additional Director of School and Literacy, Meghalaya, Shillong, and many more.

Speaking at the occasion, Shri. P. S Thankhiew lauded the performance of the school children and congratulated the State amd District Awardees. He further highlighted the advantages of the implementation of the Right to Education Act. He further lauded the teachers for their undying spirit and commitment to teach and in turn improving the society. And he also stated that the government is committed to work with stake holders to achieve great success as far as education is concern.

During his address, Dr. R. C. Laloo remembered with reverence his teachers who guided him to reach where he is now and gave all the credit to them. Addressing the problems faced by the teachers, he said that the Government is putting its efforts and assures to quicken the process to pay the arrears due to the teachers. He further appeal to the School Managing Committee and the governing body to play some role, cooperate and know the present position of the government and convey the message and information so that the student do not suffer.

Other highlights of the occasion are songs and dances by the students and an award presentation to the teachers to honour their service.

NOTICE TO TRADERS, SHOPKEEPERS AGAINST ILLEGAL PRACTICE

Shillong, Sept 5, 2011: With a view to protect the consumers from illegal trade practices, the Deputy Commissioner and President of the District Consumers’ Forum, West Garo Hills has issued a notice against the unilateral condition being followed by a few traders and shopkeepers that Goods once sold will not be taken back or exchanged included in cash memos/bills given to their consumers.

Stating that it is illegal and unethical trade practice and in contravention to Sec. 14 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the Deputy Commissioner has, with immediate effect, directed all traders and shopkeepers to ensure that their cash memos and bills issued to the consumers do not carry such conditions, adding that violation of this order would be seriously dealt with.

In a separate order, the Deputy Commissioner, Supply, West Garo Hills has directed all the fair price shop dealers under Tura Sadar Division to lift their monthly allotted quota regularly within the validity period.

The order was issued in view of the fact that some fair price shop dealers have failed to lift their monthly quota from the wholesalers on time. The order stated that non-compliance would be viewed seriously resulting in cancellation of their dealership.
